Local Pick-Up?

Will the pres/mics be available for local pick-up in Ontario? I live in Los Angeles, so it would save me on the shipping. Thanks

also, when i registered, it said this:

CDO.Message.1 error '80040213'

The transport failed to connect to the server.

but, when i tried to re-register it says that someone already registered with that email (being me obviously).

Question pre/s+a mic advice pls., oh, and shipping address etc q's

Sorry to be stumbling in here like the drunk arriving at the end of the party, "Hey, where's all the booze??", but while a Gslut for a while, I only just came across the group buy after looking at a few pres online/overseas today. Long story short, I do mostly dub/tech/programmed computer stuff, oftenw/some live bass at home and thinking on a pre to patch into the system to add some colour/vibe. Also, I do a lot of narration work, as well as branching out into narration demos for folks too. My lowly system so far consists of a Rode NT2000 into a Fireface 800, also a 58 and a 57. Some good results but thinking 1 or maybe 2 of the pres might suit my instrument/vocal needs plus... which mic would be recommended for close range, quite deep voiced, spoken vox?

Couple more quick qs:

Having read thru many pages and the PP debacle...is payment still PP only?

If payment is not PP only and credit card is available, is shipping to non-billing address possible? I ask as I live in Japan and if UPS/Fedex is the international option I may ship to a friend in the US and then possibly by USPS. Of course i understand that shipping is an issue for a later date, just wondering.

Power. Japan uses 110V, not usually an issue w/US gear but worth asking.

Any other Japan folks thinking to get in on any of this?

Thankyou very much indeed Chance and everyone involved, love group buys and if this works out it sounds like some fabulous gear for the $$

We aren't using PP for any of payment. They shut that down and we aren't able to use them even if we wanted to. The methods of payment we have available to us now is credit cards (MasterCard & Visa ONLY) and Online/Virtual Checks.

Shipping and payment are 2 different processes. I'm not doing any AVS checks when you make payment, so you can pay with any credit card regardless of the billing address that is associated with that card. At the bottom of the main page when you log into the Group Buy User Console, you will see where you enter your shipping information... This is the address to where you order will be shipped.

Thanks,

Randy

Well, only a few days left and this group buy will be closed for this year. Our quotas have been met and the order will be placed next week. In the future we might try something a little different, if not, we'll do another group buy (#5) next year.

Someone sent me this link for shipping accross the pond for you guys to check out

Hi Chance,
in a German forum I heard about "yankit". This could turn out to be a little bit cheaper than USPS or UPS...

line level ins and DIs

Forgive the embarrassing uber-noob-ness of these 2 questions...(deep breath),

I'm wanting to record not only mics through a preamp but also line level signals ie samples, synths etc. I see the 73 has an instrument input but couldn't see specs for other 2, do they also accept line level in?

Aaaaand...a DI input, that's for connecting bass/guitar directly?

Generally speaking, a DI input is for instruments - guitars, bass and maybe some keys. Line input is for line level (+4) inputs such as a tape machine, DAW output, etc. Not sure about the ACMP's although I did see that they have line in inputs on the back. Nice addition.

Exclamation Payment Gateway Maintenance

Hi All:

Just wanted to let you know that on May 13, 2008 at 1:00am EDT, the provider of the payment gateway for this group buy will be performing scheduled server maintenance.

If you attempt payment during these times, you may get an error.

Thanks,

Randy

In a never ending quest to get the best rates, something came to mind. The point of origin. Is it me? Or is it China. For me to ship to you,, it would originate with me,, yes? Almost everything you buy today comes from China, so if I buy a mic from Guitar center that is made in China,, to me, the sale originates at Guitar center.
TnC is an American company and with the NAFTA agreements, there is no duty with products originating in the USA to Canada. Can someone clear this up?

Sweet!

Right now I'm scheduled for:

(2) ACMP 73
(2) ACMP 84
(2) ACMP 81
(2) ACM1200
(2) ACM2
(2) ACM3
(2) ACM4
(2) ACM300

and I'm still deliberating about a 6802T. I heard some pretty nice clips of that mic. Very similar - only better - to a 414 (the other mic tested).

Plus I'm ordering a bunch of stuff for a couple of buddies! I'm going to need to get a truck when I pick this stuff up Chance!!!

NAFTA and most/all tariff/trade agreements are based on the country of manufacture. In the case where a product is manufactured in part somewhere else and then there is a final conversion, the manufacturer declares the proportion that is domestic and there are allowable factors for management, marketing and engineering. A rackmount processor wouldn't count as NAFTA prod of USA unless say US transformers and DOAmps representing x % (a significant number), engineering, marketing and final assembly were done in the USA. IMHO, there is no NAFTA in this case.

That being said, there are preferential tariffs for certain developing nations and we can import (to Canada) from China duty free (minimum 65% Sino manufacture) and regardless of either treaty, microphones are duty free anyway.

With regard to marking items as gifts, samples or otherwise trying to pass under the radar, while this may work for a one time ebay sale, the tax man is on to this big time and the penalties for businesses making false declarations would put most pro audio companies out of business, if caught. ..... customers won't be shy to ask you to break the law for them, do what you think is best.

You're probably right. And it's all your fault you know!!! If you hadn't pointed out those clips...... My buddy just added two. Does that count? How many mics can a person use...??? Wait, don't answer that. I'm sure I'm over that number already.

Doesn't everyone feel a little uncomfortable when entering his credit card details on a non-secure site? Could have been https, no?
I asked Chance by email if I could send him my details by fax but haven't got an answer yet. So, am I worrying too much or is anyone sharing my thoughts?

I just checked and it does have a SSL certificate and is encrypted.
Otherwise yeah, I would be uncomfortable.
But no worries here.
