Thread Starter | Monitors: <$1000, flat, good sounding
I'm looking for a pair of monitors for less than $1,000. The only requirement I have which might be out of the ordinary is that I'm a guitar player and I'd also like to use them for amplifying my hardware amp modeler (an Axe-FX) for practice. For this reason, I'd like them to be pleasant and musical sounding in addition to being flat and accurate. I'd be willing to sacrifice a little in terms of imaging and detail for a nice sound. But I can't use monitors that are hyped. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

if you hook a modeler to a good set of monitors and it DOESN'T sound good, that's an indication that you need a different modeler. Also, I'm just going to my defacto answer of "Get some good speakers and a great amp" and skip the self-powered stuff.

Sorry for coming across as a jerk, but why not add to an existing thread rather than starting a new thread causing regular members to repeat their de-facto responses to what is essentially the same old question?

| Actually, this is a bit different - moving the monitors around for prcatice is an interesing problem. (Personally, I'd be thinking keyboard amp...) -tINY |

I realize that there are a ton of threads on monitors in this price range. I thought that this merited a new thread because it seems like sounding good, by which I mean pleasant and musical, is not the highest priority for monitors that will be used exclusively for mixing. I will use mine for mixing but I will also use them for monitoring my guitar playing at home. I will not using them at band practice. (Sorry for the confusion.) I'm currently using inexpensive Tascam monitors. They have a very flat frequency response and seem reasonably detailed, but they are also harsh sounding. So playing guitar through them is not very fun or inspiring. It's not the Axe-FX's fault. Listening to professional recordings through these speakers is the same. There is an unpleasant harshness. I'd like to avoid this in my next pair of monitors. But I've seen many comments here about very well regarded monitors, for example Adam A7's, that while they are accurate, they are not particularly pleasing. For some that is not a big issue beyond fatigue, but for me it is. That's why I started this thread to get information on this specific aspect of the leading monitors in this price range. I hope this helps clarify my original post.
