Dead Songwriter Recording Session: Pick 4 Low End Pieces of Gear to capture it.

You have one session to capture a new album by Robert Johnson, Elvis, Bob Marley, Lennon, whomever you please. State who you would want to record, and what 4 pieces of low end gear you would pick to record them. They have one, organic (non-electric) instrument to back themselves up with.

Low end meaning all items under a grand (4 grand total).

Don't forget to include the DAW, Tape Machine or (fill in the blank)!

Bonus points for low cost entries!!

cheap.

I like a small St*der 169 mixer, but it blows the budget (too fashionable in LA). Soundcraft Delta200 with optional Sowter input transformer deluxe mic inputs- 16x4x2 $800.

First impulse is Neumann TLM170 or AEA44, but it'll have to be used AudioTechnica 4050, EV RE-55, RE-15 ($310, $110, $85).

Headphones for the mixer. Beyer DT990pro or Senn HD600, new. Performer cue speaker $free in alley or car speaker.

Aphex Dominator2 $200. Rane SP-15 $75. Powered speaker or boombox for stairwell echo send $free in alley.

Ampex MM1000, $free for hauling. Alignment tape and blank stock $500.

Blackface ADAT $free. Blank tapes $15.

Macintosh 8100/G3 w/ AM-II card Sound Designer II ProTools4 $free for hauling.

DAT machine with dozens of 2 hour tapes. $free for hauling.

Spend change on improvised performer space acoustics, booze, cabling, stands, mood lighting, take-out, beautiful receptionist.

Cheers.
