WHARFEDALE 8.2 Pro Active Studio Monitors

Hi guys!
Anyone got a pair of these or has listened to apair?
Please comment
I'm wanting as good a set of monitors for mixing for as little as money as possible. Oxymoron I know but have you seen the amount of studio monitors on the market nowadays? Like who hasn't got line!
Anyway I'm inclined to go with a company that specializes in mainly making a quality speaker at an affordable price.
What are your suggestions?

This needs to be moved (I don't think this is low-end)and you need to relook at the system
that's an 8.2 system, not stereo.

donsolo: maybe get an idea of what youre talking about before you post..

the WHARFEDALE 8.2 Pro Active Studio Monitors .. are ok.. i currently monitor through a set ...

when i purchased them i was on homerecording.com/bbs a lot, and they were all about them....

theyve served me well and for the price id say they were worth it....

however,
now that ive built a nice room.. i can really notice the bumbs and dips of the freq response... they also dont have quite the low end i need to mix...

as a step up from cpu speakers they are great, but awesome monitors they are not..

if thats youre price range id say go for it.. if you can save up some more first -- do that

gl

I've got a set of them, as mentioned, not that much going on in the low end, but since i use them mainly for audio editing and local tv & radio commercials they work fine for my needs.

if i were tracking bands and doing any kind of hip-hop or rock stuff, i'd look elsewhere as they just wouldn't translate it well.

That's them in my avatar actually... just realized that.

Thanks Dave and gl for getting back.
I record and mix from classical to thrash.
I would prefer good midrange detail over tons of bass. But it has to there and firm.
I got the Edirol MA10As and a set of DIY speakers in a 8m x 5m room and Sony 7509 h'phones, but would like the luxury, ok necessity of accurate speakers and I thought he Wharfies would be an improvement.

I also like the KRK VXT6s but they are 2k here in Oz for the pair.
It looks like the rokit6s are the affordable way to go or the Wharfies. Would they be better than the Wharfies or much of a muchness at this end of the market?
There are so many studio monitors on the market it is getting to be a major decision process.
It is not much to ask. The best value for quality monitors?

It has taken me a good while to get used to mine. I was over compensating for the bass and my mixes were coming out bass heavy. This might also be a result of the mix position in my small room. When I stand to the back of the room the bass seems to be there. As for midrange I think they are fine. To me they aren't very exciting to listen to but I guess that's the point.

Thanks for your input ed. So the Wharfies have good mid detail but lacking in the bass end. Is the bass good enough to discern kick and bass?
Trying to find who has them around here to audition them. No luck yet and they are over priced here too. Like much stuff. Greedy Gov. import duty and not as big a market as EU & US Distributors.

i've had them for a few years.

they are good for middle and highs; they are clear.

i haven't found accounting for the bass such a problem; like someone else said, try standing up, or moving to the back of your room, and check out how noticeable the difference is. it's almost like the ideal mixing position is kind of a dead zone for the lower bass (but above-subbass) frequencies.

they're certainly ok for kick and bass purposes, unless perhaps you're writing drumnbass with uber-sub sine kicks from hell ;)

certainly they have less bass than something like the Alesis entry-levels, but the mid-range, uppers and the depth of them more than makes up for it. they're quite detailed for the price. i've heard better monitors for high-volume work, but these are nearfield and discerning enough to be able to handle quiet operation.

as far as my ears are concerned , they're not *too* tiring.

oh, and mine developed a whistling distortion in one of the tweeters, but that's probably because they were ex-display.

yeah the mids! lol, sorry jinksdingo i forgot to mention that was why i liked them for doing voiceover/audiobook recording/editing so much. anything in the midrange sounds really detailed and very accurate so i'm able to really bring out the nuances in a good voice or quickly hear the defects and correct them in a not so good voice.
I've heard some of my stuff being mastered on a really nice blue sky 5.1 set up and thought that it translated very well considering that the wharfies cost less than the cables they were using.

they aint great , i had them and replaed them with mackie 624 mark 1 which i got cheap .

its like listening to hi fi after listening via a coke can.

the wharfes are a little dull , low on bass, good mid , good detail

but mixes dont translate well .

didnt like them after researching loads of monitors and buying them .

the mackies are wonderful.
