Thread Starter | That's not a horse, he's using coconuts! Hello Not strictly a gear question, but related... I need some form of 'clip clop' sounding percussion for a CD i'm recording at a local studio. I remember trying coconut halves a few years back, but it sounded rubbish. Anyone had any luck with and percussion like this, DIY or otherwise? Or recorded anyone who used anything like this? And get any decent results to tape? |

Thread Starter | Thanks for that. I don't want an exact horse though, something that resembles one and sounds good. I'm not really into using samples and things, I'd rather use some sort of percussion if i can find anything to do the job. I'll go and have a listen now though, thanks. Are the Americans here going to get the Python reference? I'm not sure if its big over there. |

| Well African swallows are non-migratory, so I guess Coconuts are out, cus a European swallow could never handle one.

Thread Starter | I take that as a yes then! Still, how do i get my clip clop sounds? Maybe if i do the horse actions as well as hit the coconut halves together? It was actually a serious request for information, I should have known it would descend into silliness with a Python reference. |

| why do I have an answer to this question I keep asking myself..?? If you use the lids to hairspray cans... and walk with them on a decent floor like a horse, it makes a pretty decent clip clop sound... and most people have a couple of hairspray lids hanging around... Yes, I have a child...

| Romper stompers, wood blocks.... I think a European sparrow has enough airspeed velocity to handle either of those. -tINY |

| elk bones sound way better than wood blocks...they really sound like horse hooves...........wood blocks don't sound anything like horse hooves....elk bones are hollow and resonate just right..... but wood blocks would sound ok if tweeked in logic or something..... |

| ummm... did cocnuts suddenly become illegal? tutt Hit the store and enjoy a fresh glass of coconut milk when you're done. Not using coconuts here would be like using MBox2 when you have a Studer tape machine sitting next to you... go analouge. ![]() |

Thread Starter | wow, some great suggestions here. I think i'll try them all. My housemate just got a dog, so maybe i'll go to the pet shop and get an assortment of bones, then the dog can have anything i don't want. I reckon that'd be perfect. Or I could try them in the shop. As long as no one else is there... |

| You've gotta let somebody for you, because you'll need one hand to give him directions, and the other to hold the horse ![]() I'm sorry to mess with your thread. Have you tried a real horse? |

... You have a dog? Ah, then the answer is simple. Use the hairspray can lid idea, but attach four of them to the dig's paws & let him walk around while you record the results. Should give you a more authentic gait. ![]() | |
