Ever mixed on KRK Rokit monitors?

If so, what was your experience? Did you get an accurate representation? If not, (since I bought a pair) what are some of the things I should be looking for in order to improve my mix. Let me know.

Thanks.

My last band mixed our 5 song CD on a pair of RP-8's. Some people will crap on them - hyped this or missing that. But in my opinion, for the price, they are good pair of monitors. Assuming of the course the mixing room is in good shape. The best monitors in the world will sound like crap if you're mixing in a shipping container.

The Rockit 5 is useable - actually real good for the price.

I have the Rockit 8's with a KRK sub and they are not bad for the money, but I prefer to mix on my new pair of Adam A7's. They are more accurate sounding to me, better mid-range. The KRK's are better for bass heavy music even without the sub. Since I do mostly acoustic the Adams suit me better, though.

That being said, several years ago when I went from my original monitors, Alesis M1 MKII's to the KRK Rokit 8's, it was astonishing how much better they were. Now if only I could afford those Barefoot MM27's......

I've seen a lot of feedback that the Rockit 5's are excellent - for the money. I'm currently using a Blue Sky EXO system (for similar money) that I'm pleased with.

Acoustic treatment in your room is every bit as important as your monitors. Spending $500 on monitors and $500 on room treatment will serve you better than a set of $1000 monitors in a bad room.

my biggest issue with rokkit 5s is the bass. You can turn it down in the back I think but it booms a little in the bottom which causes tinny mixes. They are good for the money but you need to have your A/D really working in the MSB region of dynamic range because things get more buried into RP-5s than my Paradigms.

And I'm not sure if it was upwards masking from the boomy bottom or if the speaker just wasn't detailed enough but it's a touch muffled sounding. That very very upper end (the stuff that turns into crackles on 128mp3s) is really dull and winds up creating harsh mixes because you compensate.

Though if these are your first set of monitors, they're fantastic for learning HOW to mix. I probably wouldn't try to do a commercial release on them because of the bass issues but if you checked enough systems, you'd have a good feel.

Just learn them aurally. Just listen to your 100 favorite CDs on it over and over and you'll notice common trends as to what's loud and not on these monitors.

which model? there is a great deal of difference. i currently have passive Rock Its and i find them good no that i know them, dont underestimate how long it will take you to learn your monitors though. only significant problem i have is that they dont go low enough, but you work with what you have.

older models are very usable aswell but they have such a different sound to anything else that they are hard to learn.

just remember to always use reference material when mixing and check on some good headphones and you will do fine.

I think the p5's make a good entry choice. I've been using mine for a while now and like what I get from them. Sure eventually you'll upgrade, but In the two years I've been toying around I've only just started upgrading my mics and still feel no need to upgrade my Rokit 5's.
