Fours215, How's it going? An Apogee Duet ia an interface for Macs, so you won't be able to use it with an MBox, plus it does not have digital I/Os so you can't use it as a converter as well.

On the other hand, a mini me will work. The mini me is a great upgrade from the Mbox since it come with better pres and converters. So I would go with the Mini me without a doubt. When you get the Mini me just get a S/PDIF cable and connect the cable to "S/PDIF out" on the Mini me and take the other end of the cable and connect it to "S/PDIF in" on your Mbox and there you go you have better pres and converters using just an Mbox.

If possible it would be a great idea to get the Mini DAC as well so you have better D/A converters as well.

Next time please search the forums on GS and you'll find plenty of answer, since this topic has been touched many time before

if you use a mini-me with the mbox2 you will have latency issues while recording tracks. there is one way around this mess.

buy a 1/8" to 1/4" cable and go out of the mini-me headphone jack into the mbox2 input. this will allow you to monitor off of the mbox2, which is necessary to illiminate latency while monitoring signals being recorded. while not a perfect solution it works.

best of luck to you.

Yes, This is correct. I forgot to touch on that topic. Another way of taking care of this problem, is to lower the buffer rate and that will take care of it. Your lower latency will be disabled when you start using the Mini Me as you converter/preamp

so all that i would have to do is lower the buffer setting in pro tools to lower the latency of the mini me? is that correct? and after connecting the cables 1/8 to 1/4 to mbox input what would i/o settings be set to in pro tools. Sorry just wanna know what i'm getting myself into ahead of time. thanx for the generous answers they are much appreciated.

Get a 1/8 to XLR and run it from the mini me headphone jack to the mic input on the mbox..then you can use the gain switch as a volume..it works perfect..No Latency

Yes, Thats Correct. "Just Lower the buffer setting"

Make sure your tracks are on the S/PDIF connection for both in and out. If you recording a mono track just use "S/PDIF L" (L for Left) and if you are tracking stereo then use both channels.

P.S. You only need one way to get rid of the latency, so see which one works best for you.

You will hear yourself just fine.

Yes, The MBox does not support 96k sample rates, The MBox 2 Pro supports it though

The mini me can support it as well, but since your MBox can only go up to 48khz, it will not allow the Mini me to go that high (88.2 and 96k) in sample rates as well.

From my understanding, he is only doing this for the latency while recording using the headphones.

duet won't work with protools, of course

@desotoslo: he said he's working in ProTools. The Apogee Duet, of course, won't work with ProTools. So that's not a very useful opinion, even if it is vehement.
