can any of you help me out with wiring. headphone amp. hello i just ordered some hd650's.. i read it really needs a headphone amp. im gonna be hooking it up to my edirol fa-66.. which is connected to 2 yamaha powered monitors. all these headphone amps only have a trs input.. im looking for something where i can have a headphone input so i can just connect it to the headphone output of my edirol.. know what i mean? i could also have the output of my edirol go to a new headphone amp and the from that out to the monitors and the headphones.. but my monitors are already powered.. wont that like blow them up?? if not that will be easy for me. let me know slutz ![]()

| Lives for gear | why not just connect the headphones into the headphone jack on your interface? You can also buy a headphone extender cable.

Your HD-650s are 300 ohm cans... they should be powered just fine from the FA-66's headphone jack.

Of course a headphone preamp is nice in that you can often mute monitors, make them mono, and otherwise power headphones without too many cables and adapters. Some like the HP4 even have a volume control for the monitors, so you can adjust both monitors the same amount with one front facing volume knob. And otherwise use cheaper headphone based speakers when you don't want the heat / power draw of your monitors.

If the interface winds up not being powerful enough, I can vouch for the usefulness of the Presonus HP4 mentioned by Shadow 7. It's got lots of headphone power, and it has a monitor pass-through (with a volume knob). You send the line level to the HP4 first, then out to the powered monitors. Very handy.
