Tascam M-208 Anyone still use one of these? I looking for a small board to run tracks through and this model caught my eye... I will mainly be using it for running tracks from my mpc 1000 into PT LE...tired of mixing in the box...

I used the 216 for years (same thing, more channels).. was it great? no. was it horrible? no. It's not terribly flexible (one effects send, one aux send.. both mono, etc, etc) but it works. Strangely, a lot of the stuff I recorded with it DOES sound good years later. "-)

Well, would you think it's worth about a hundred bucks? Also, does it have balanced outs? thanks for the advice! -barrett

if I recall - it has stereo balanced outs... and balanced outs for the 4 buses - but that's it.. the rest of the ins/outs are unbalanced, I believe. $100 bucks? may be worth it.. see if you can play with it and see if you like it.

Thanks for the advice! At the chance of sounding dumb: Do you think the unbalanced ins/outs would make a huge difference?

If you're just looking at it to go 'analog - out of the box'... there may be better options for a little more money. Frankly - for a little more, pick up a used Mackie - it's probably a better sounding (and infinitely more flexible) option. The Tascam did it's job for me, but it's pretty smeary and there's crosstalk and a lot of noise... ymmv.

How much more money do you think it'll take?

You can find a used 1604 pretty cheap... a quick search of craigslist or ebay shows the nicer VLZ versions going for about $300.. less for the older original style.
