who offers great clones of marshall plexi guitar amps?

hi folks,

I'm looking for manufacturers of great clones of the old marshall plexi (jtm 45, beginning of 1960s) amps.

I'm looking for that very direct, dynamic and full sound and thought there must be some clones of that.

can you suggest any particular model/manufacturer?

thanks!

martin

I don't know how good they are but these are ones I'm looking at. May be worth you having a look.

I haven't tried a metro amp but I have a Ceriatone Tweed Deluxe clone and it's really really nice, excellent build quality and cheap too.

just build your own. If can solder you can build a plexi.
I'm building a jcm 800 which is alot more complex. And
other than designing the pcb's the 800 is very simple. The plexi
is all point to point on a board. With all the parts you could assemble
it in 4 or 5 hours max even if you've never done it before

All the parts are available at Antique Electronic Supply

Check out Gabtone. MySpace.com - Gabriel Sound Garage - ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Illinois - Rock / Blues / Jazz - www.myspace.com/gabtone

I met the owner (Gabi) a few years ago, and he was a really nice guy. I sold him a few of my old mics. I haven't messed with his products in person, but judging by his demeanor and the knowledge he had I'd totally want to give him my money.

Just call Greg and talk to him. Once you get over his super-thick accent (he's near my hometown) then he's amazing.

hmmm... I've soldered lots of audiocables, but I've NEVER handled any electric circuits, nor do I understand them at all.

plus, a plexi handles heavey voltages up to 500 volts - that can be a bit dangerous for somebody who doesn't have a clue about electronics.

UK builder Denis Cornell Cornell / DC Developments Home Page

Awesome point-to-point Plexi-style amps properly built with over-spec transformers.

The 18 watters are superb.

The JTM-45 style amp is switchable down to 5 watts I believe thumbsup
