Question What's A Good Loop Pedal ?

Hey folks of GearSlutz,

I need your trusted advice, what is a good loop pedal ?

I'm looking at something that can cover alot of instruments like; guitar, bass (both of these in electric & acoustic), drums, keys etc.....

And finally, something that can be used with micing up a few of them through a pre amp for live shows.

Any goers ?

Thanks for reading,
Travis.

i love the boomerang. being into "real" samplers, i rfuse to spend that much on a loopig pedal, but i does rock. check out line 6 too, good experiences with both.

The Boss RC-50 is a pretty cool device for creating loops.

yeah, I've seen a few people using RC-50s, syncing them up via midi, its really Rad.

the EH multi track stereo looper looks cool too, but not as user friendly.
and it costs more to get the footswitch... lame.

+1 for the Roland RC-50

The Electro Harmonix Stereo Memory Man also has a nice featureset.

Depends on what you're going for.

you are ignorant.

people like you make me hate forums because your input is completely unjustified, unwanted, and useless. the scroll ball on my mightymouse has to travel THAT much farther in order to pass the bullshit that gets in the way of curious people finding answers from their peers on forums.

please go away

on a side note -> YouTube - RHCP Venice Queen: Live at Slane Castle

that's john frusciante looping live in front of 70,000 at slane castle. the same john frusciante that while maintaining his position as a songwriting machine in the red hot chili peppers, released 6 solo albums over the course of six months.

sort of the epitome of creativity, wouldn't you say?

Anyways,

i'd recommend the digitech jamman. the boss rc-50 is a beast, and fairly excessive for most people's looping needs. the boss rc-20 is the double pedal version that has a pot for selecting between up to 10 saved loops but there is no display telling you what number you're on. the jamman is close to the same price as the rc-50 but stores up to 99 loops instead of 10 and has a small two digit led display that tells you what bank you're on.

i've never tried the boomerang, but i will if i ever see one!

hope this helps.

I have a friend who uses a Boss RC-20XL. It seems to work great, it's quick and easy to use.

I have a Boss RC-20XL and it's great. It's quick, simple and solid. I use it for looping live stuff on the fly so I don't care about storing pre-recorded loops in the memory bank and all that...

Thumbs up Thanks

To all who have given me positive feedback and advice, I thank you.

There is alot to consider and choose from, so I think a lock down in a few music stores would be good, just to see what is best for my needs.

Again, thanks.

Take it easy,
Travis.

Yeah, have a trial and see what suits your mindset best... most stores should be able to give you 2-3 pedals for a comparison/trial if you tell you will buy one of them in the end..

Have fun!

Jeez....you couldn't be more off base here if you tried. Looping live (when done tastefully) takes an extraordinary amount of pre planning, calls for razor sharp timing, leaves absolutely NO margin for error and on the whole takes a lot more talent to pull it off live than not looping.

And to further the thought a looping device is no more a gimmick than any other piece of hardware anyone chooses to use...simply a tool.

I absolutely love my RC-50....not much it won't do
You seem....frustrated

I dig my JamMan... it proved very useful on stage for a solo/duo acoustic/electric country act (yay simple song progressions, loop the last verse before the solo, and noodle to your heart's content, slap the pedal when you're ready to get back into the song), and has been a lot of fun in the home studio... used it to work up the drum part for songs, played the guitar part into the pedal, got it looping, went and sat down behind the drum kit. It's been a practical piece of gear for me.

Most people I've seen do this live have been using the Line 6 DL4. I've even seen someone use one on an electric cello. It sounded awesome.
Looping pedals can open up a whole new dimension for the solo performer. If you've ever seen Iain Archer play live, you'll know what I mean. He also uses a Boss pedal and a handset mic on his voice, to build up backing chords. Great stuff!

I just got an rc-50. love it. I had the first version of the boomerang, and eventually upgraded it to the plus version. but it always had too high a noise floor.. fairly user friendly, though it is highly recomended that you study the manual if you're interested in some of its deeper functions.

green line 6 has always done the job but i'm surprised they never upgraded it with a flash card or something...would be nice to store some loops. BUT....sometimes it's nice to not have the option so i have to get off my ass and cue up a reel.

Line 6 JM4...

Haven't had the chance to check it out yet, but it seems to be a bit more than what I need. I really never see myself using the prerecorded loops to jam with, and the onboard FX seem a little much (again, I have not had too much time to play with it. I am sure they would be very useful to someone... just not me.) I love that there is an amp output and stereo line outputs, but I wish there was a way to select the output to either output from inside the patch... That way you could have the vocal/sample loops play out of a PA and at the same time have the guitar loops play out of the amp.

I Loved how easy the Jamman seemed to use and the USB connection was great. No stereo out though?...I did hear the next model will have stereo line outs though. I will be using the pedal not only for Looping, but also storing samples, so stereo outs could help a lot. Hence my decision for going with the Line 6.

I wish there was a pedal like the Line 6 with a USB connection and With assignable outputs.

Thread back from the dead.

But since there is new stuff to talk about about. Looperlative has a new pedal that looks really really cool. I interviewed the designer on my NAMM coverage. Its about 24 minutes (you can fast forward to that)

I played with a ton and really liked the Memory Man w/ Hazari. Bought it and I'm still pleased with after about 6 months of regular use.

Hi.
I had the Line6 DL4, then the EHX Deluxe Memory Man w/HH, now I'm on to the Line6 M9 and I've found it to be the most versatile looper yet, plus you get all the effects. I was sceptical to get another piece of Line6 gear, but it's great.
