Our Ikea traps

I posted about this in another thread, but to not sidetrack that thread, I'm starting a new one here.

We built some traps from Ikea bookshelfs inspired by a previous GS thread - here's some pics.

They have 4" to 8" bats in them

Once again thanks to especially Ethan and Glenn for pouring knowledge about this stuff all over this forum!

EDIT: Im actually looking pics of Ikea shelfs right now and they seem to be so thin that you didn't even need to slice them. And cheap! Did you leave the back wood sheet in place or is the shelf open from both front and back? It's hard to say from the picture is that backside 703 or wood sheet or what.
Thanks! It's pretty simple actually, we just took the bookshelfs as they come without putting in the extra shelves. Then we made a thin frame to fit exactly inside the bookshelf frame and covered it with fabric. The backside is very thin wooden something which we cut open top and bottom and mounted fabric from the inside - that way the 703 is covered with fabric both front and back and we can place the traps with a little distance to the wall to leave an air gap between the 703 and the wall - everyone recommends that for traps.

I live by an Ikea. I may make some of these. Is there a page or something with instructions? It would be really cool to have 4-6 of these in my studio.

We used these:

IKEA | Storage furniture | Bookcases | KILBY

they are 40 bucks each ;-)

We don't have any instructions - sorry. We just measured the inside of the bookshelf and made frames to fit that ... very simple

It looks like it would take up too much space in a small studio.
I think hanging the 4in 2'x4' panels would be better in a situation like a small room and the ikea furniture would work in a larger room.

Just to clarify,
You did remove the wood backing on these right? Or should I say I HOPE YOU REMOVED................
Sorry I am spending the week in Germany and still have a little jet lag so maybe that is what you meant.

Well - we cut big holes in the wood backing, leaving only a centimeter or two to mount the backside fabric on, so in theory the wood backing is still there, but with the two holes in it only 5% is left ... does it make sense?

We made ordinary panels too (pics attached). Som of the bookshelf traps holds 8" of bats - that's pretty much to handle for a hanging panel ... plus they're floor to ceiling in our rooms.

That's all very cool! Using shorter shelves would make for a killer budget gobo... hmmmmmmm.
