Would an RNC be an improvement over...

...the stock compression plugs in ProTools? I recently acquired an 003R and thought I could bus audio out to the RNC, send it back in and adjust the track to compensate for the latency.

I'm love using ProTools but always prefer buying hardware for things like this... call me old fashioned.

i dont think its a case of better or worse its how you use either one.
the good thing if your using the digi converters is that the converter latency gets compensated for automatically.

theres an RNC on ebay right now you could get it an try it, if you dont like it you can sell it again for the price you paid. with the strong dolor it wouldn't cost to much to buy one from the US anyway and again if you decided not to keep it they seem to retain a decent price.

It's probably easier to just buy one used (~$125US) and try it....runs some tests and see if you like it better.

If you dont, you can sell it for what you paid.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I guess I was looking for a different flavour of compression but you are tight. they are so cheap at the moment that I woudn't lose much by just giving one a go.

Hi Dave,

Seems you're in Melbourne...so are we!

Why not come down to our store and I can lend you my own RNC for you to try out for a couple of days...then if you like I can order one in for you?

No obligation!

Cheers,
Spiro

Spiro,

Thanks for the offer. I will give you a call during the week and maybe pop down next weekend. Haven't heard of you guys before, so it'll be nice to check out a new music store.

We're open Mon-Fri from 9am to 5pm...I'm in the store Wednesday/Thursday/Friday...we are closed on the weekends at the moment but that will probably change in the new year.

Alot of people haven't heard of us, which isn't that strange considering our main clients have traditionally been the larger studios as well as the broadcast industry (radio & T.V) as well as performance venues and the education sector. We aren't set up as a retail store as such but have always taken care of the musicians and hobby/semi-pro recordists in Melbourne who know about us with *trade* pricing. We don't carry the overheads that the bigger retailers do so we pass those financial benefits on to you, as well as provide second-to-none service. In short, we aren't about shifting boxes...we're pretty laid back and our aim is to develop strong long-term relationships with customers.

Actually, I should probably put up a formal post somewhere to introduce ourselves and blow our trumpet there!

Give me a call at the store...hope you become our very first 'gearslutz' customer!

Cheers,
Spiro

p.s. We also do quality custom cabling...pretty much anything you need made up for for either video or audio we can do.
