| Drum Overheads: SM81, ATM450, C414uls, MXL603 I've got a pair of MXL603's now and am using them for XY drum overheads (cymbals mainly) in a 7x8 room that is as close as I can get to dead. Micing the snare, kick and toms seperately. Preamps are Digi 002. What improvements would be made in tone moving to a SM81, ATM450, C414uls (or otherwise)? Idealy looking for mics with a pad & low pass, which each of these have. Mainly record 70's rock and jazz. Not looking for a hyped modern sound. |

| You should also consider the Rode NT55-MP which is fairly new. The SM81 might be a safe bet for your sound requirements. Is been around forever and been used on drum overheads forever. |

| Gear interested | I personally like the SM81. Always had a nice, clear sound. |
