Mackie HR 824 Woofers....

Hello everyone. This is my first post, though I've lurked for a while now.... I was looking for a place to get some new woofers for my Mackie HR 824 monitors. I picked up two pairs of these dirt cheap a couple of weeks back, the only issue being that they all have torn woofers. Hopefully these will be paired with a 626 as a center channel for a surround setup. (any thoughts what would be a good sub?) Anyway, I checked with mackie, and they said they are $150ea. I figured I could just save up, but in my search (on your lovely forum) I found out that they are really Vifa P22WP woofers, that sold for around a third of the price. I was very happy to hear this...and sad to see that they don't seem to be available anywhere....

So my questions to you are... Does anyone know where to find these? OR Would the PL22WR model be just as good? OR is there another that woofer from Vifa or another manufacturer that would be just as good or better? OR Should I just save up and pay $600 for $200 worth of woofers from Mackie? (ouchie)

Thank you for all of your help, and for having this cool forum in the first place.

I imagine the crossover is tailored to the specific (original) tweeter,
using different tweeters might cause some weird stuff but im no speaker design expert...
Mackie must have a stock left (few thousends pieces? enough for 3-4 years of repair service) and since the specific model is no longer manufactured (one of the main reason mackie redesign the speaker and came out with the mk2,now using chinies manufactured vita style woofers) they want 3 times the original price.
So... better look over Ebay for the original ones.

eBay Store - Musicians Exchange: Keyboards, Eminence Speakers, Microphones
I saw that this store sell 646 replacement woofer for not too much, contact them and ask if they can look around and help you out.

I wouldn't assume that they will have replacement speakers for 3-4 years. I just had to replace a subwoofer from Mackie, and not only did they not have the speakers to replace, the only way I was able to get a replacement was a factory second. I'm not complaining because the situation ended up working out a lot better than I had hoped, but the fact that they didn't any sort of solution really for a current product was a little concerning.

Just my experience though...
