Thread Starter | Can't decide Focusrite Saffire Pro 10 or Presonus Firestudio Project
selling my m-audio fw1814 and DMP3 pre. Looking at either the focusrite saffire pro10 or the new presonus firestudio 10. main thing is the pre's and ad/da conversion. Any advice..

saffire looks cool. I almost bought it but it turned out my laptop has no FW so I had to go with an usb interface. as far as converters (and probably the preamps) I don´t think there will be night and day difference. non of those interfaces can´t compare to pro stuff like the newer apogee/lavry blue (which I have) and gold etc on the other hand if your songs turn out really good you can later go to a bigger studio and re-record and/or re-mix them. so you'll be fine with what you have. if you got money to burn start with room accoustics and your tracks and mixes will automatically sound better. greetz from Tallinn P

Why don't you just mod the 1814 with Black Lion Audio to bring it up to pro specs. The mods only 400 bucks and you should see a night and day difference.

thought about that also. looking at the black lion mods, I don't think that I need the tweak head option as the basic mod is 275 and seems like it will be more than sufficient. I also am looking at the Echo Audiofire 8 as an option.

I would go with the BLA mod if I were you. I have an Echo Layla (pretty much the Audiofire) and I love it. I also use outboard A/D and only use the analog ins for a few rarely used synths. From my use with it, it's a great interface but honestly, your half way there as far as getting a really good interface. Just mod the 1814 and enjoy it. |

i figure the bla mod is the logical upgrade path. I just bought a used maudio fast track as a backup while my 1814 gets modded. thanks to all who contributed.

Congrats and let us know how you like it after you get it back. I was thinking of switching to a tweak head mod on an 1814 but am holding off as what I have now is working just fine.
