I don't know if they are used for the same purpose. As much as I don't like the NS 10's, you can atleast track with them and if you like, you can mix. The Avantones would primarily be as a reference for mixes that would represent average to below average speakers with a more limited freq. range.. The NS 10's are 2 way speakers, the Avantones use a single 5 or 6 inch driver. If you are choosing between these as your main monitors, I'd go with the NS 10's (2-way). In my opinion there are much better shitty monitors than the NS 10's..........

I second the above.

The Yamahas have far from a flat frequency response, but they are clean with little bass overhang. Those with experience with them can mix to them.

The Avantones make a better reality-check shit box.

What do you want to do?

why not just use that old bookshelf system with an aux input that's in your basement?
you know, the one you listened to every day for 10 years.

I use a pair of Samson Rubicon monitors as my main working monitors. I know they are not high class, but they do the job for me. I just would like an extra pair of speakers to check my mixes on. My question is; will the NS-10 do a better job than the Avantones ? Or is it the other way around...

let me know what you think.
