New Preamp or better convertors,etc.

I currently use Cubase with a Firepod and am getting good results. I'm pleased with what I've learned in a year with the Firepod, but it's time to begin to upgrade. Here's the question - would you:
a) Get a nice dual channel pre with SPDIF out to run through the FP
or
b) Get a different interface with better conversion and better pres in the unit itself? (I actually like the idea of the Onyx 1640 with firewire option as you get great pres with very good conversion). BTW, I don't think the Firepod pres are shabby at all.

I'm leaning toward (b), but am not opposed to the idea of (a). I do a lot of acoustic instrument recording, so the idea of a nice preamp does sound nice as well. Thoughts????

(I am in the process of treating my room, so that's being taken care of.)
