Easy to use (and hopefully freeware) audio recording software for WinXP?

Hi everyone,

my question is simple; is there any such thing? I'm come from the world, where every computer and mp3-player has an picture of an apple taped on it.

But I recently started writing songs with a girl, who lives on the other side of our country. Shes got a laptop pc and a microphone and the only thing that the program (that I'm looking for) needs to do is this; let her _easily_ record her own singin and then easily enough save it as wav (or mp3 if possible).

(then obviously she sends that file to me via email, but I think that we can figure that out all-by-ourselves).

Huge thanks in advance,

Jayliskt

Look for 'Audacity' if it's just her voice, no multitracking.

Look for 'Reaper' if you want multitracking.

Or get her to buy a Mac and use Garageband :D

Reaper is not actually free -- but it currently has an unlimited free evaluation period and the actual price is extraordinarily reasonable. (All the more reason to make sure you catch up with that payment if you decide to use it!)

I don't use Reaper but I do keep on top of its rapid, ongoing development and it's impossible (for me) not to really like the scrappy, get-things-done approach to development that Cockos embraces. Bug fixes and feature requests are sometimes addressed the same day they're received... Compare that to the battleship-like inertia of some of the major DAWs...
