Drum bass mic position. What sound?

What would this sound like?

The mic I am referring to is a general "drum mic set" microphone.

Any words like: thad, boom, knock... appreciated.

*Shenanigans - A shenanigan is a deceitful confidence trick, or mischief causing discomfort or annoyance.
(Not true, in this case)

I'll do this set-up all the time for live sound. I can get what sound I like out of it.

Is there something wrong with this? Not in my opinion.

See, I don't have a pad on my board. So, the signal is usally too hot for my board. This sounds fine; if you don't have a pad on your live board, use this technique instead of cutting so much eq.

Can someone describe what I am getting that is working, or why this is "getting me by"? It works!

R I G H T_H E R E!

The main point of this thread is then:
If you kick drum is overloading your board, use the kick drum mic technique posted above! The mic is pointed down and is about 3-4inches away from the resonant head. It doesn't matter hole or no hole. Just don't put it close to the hole if there is one.

Nothing wrong with your technique, just seems like a silly post. Especially since you already know what it sounds like. But hey man, it's late and I've been in the studio for about 16 hours now, so maybe I'm just being cranky.

That should have quite a bit of boom, a little thwack, a bit of thad, a lot of snip-snap and knock up the wazzu. Does that help? No?

I would say with a position like that it will sound like green, thumbnail or picante... your mileage may vary...

Pop in an inline pad (shure, hosa or other) to kick it down at the source (pun intended ).

Cheers,
David
