Thread Starter | Door preferences
Well I'm getting close to installing the doors to my studio which used to be a garage. I hear allot of people prefer a solid core door (makes sense). I'm wondering what those of you who have built your own studios prefer as far as wood type, etc... I'm pretty much buying all the materials I can at Lowes with my Lowes card (the only way I am able to pay for materials while I am a student). What type of methods do you prefer for keeping sound from bleeding through the doors. I know doors if not done right can blow S.T.C. levels. I've been reading up on quiet glue and green glue as one option (though it's so expensive! for me at least). What are you putting underneath the doors? I'm going to put down pergo most of the rooms. Also, I heard about people taking the hollow core doors and modifying them with cement backer board and or gypsum drywall board. Has anyone ever tried this? I really need two great doors (one going from the control room to the main recording room, and the other into the iso room) but the one from the lounge area, I'm not too concerned about, I was considering this modded hollow core door idea out of curiousity since I have extra materials and some older hollow core doors to spare. I'm about to check out the JS forum too but I always enjoy reading the input people on here have as well. Thanks |
