Preamps and mics to travel?

I m looking for small preamps to record guitars, voices cello and double bass.
I got a mac book and I m looking forward to buy an Mbox 2 pro.
I just want to be able to move with my little gear and going back to the studio without saying "there is no way to use these take".
Any suggestion?
What about mics?

I know it won't be perfect but I search small gear that do the job properly.

"pro"- tools

You should look at the Apogee Ensemble. It has great sounding Mic pre's, GREAT sounding converters, as well as FW capability. You can control the Mic pre's from the Maestro software, which can be handy in a pinch!

I would recommend that you go with Logic Pro on Mac Book, as the sound quality of the software is much higher than "pro"-tools.

I think it would be a much better solution for recording good quality audio in a live situation or any studio session.

Having an M-box in front of Pro-Tools will piss you off when you get to mixing, because you have stated;

I just want to be able to move with my little gear and going back to the studio without saying "there is no way to use these take".

If you do go with the M-box, you sound quality will suffer, trust me!

peace

Thanks!

What about a Digi003?
It s not that I don't like Logic but I'm use to protools. there stuff I can't work without that only protools have.
And we run a HD5 in the studio so I just have to open my seesion and I can do edits for the studio too.

I have an Mbox1 and I'd like to change.
The Mbox2 pro seems not as good as I expected...
The Digi003 is big... but I'll deal with this!
The apogee seems to be a good chalenger but I won't have Protools...

What about small gear?

The Safe Sound P1 is a great little channel strip (though no eq). It has a nice clean preamp with a lot of gain, a fairly transparent compressor, a 2 stage limiter that works really well and an expander section. It's also very compact.

Yeah, I don't care for Pro Tools haters, either.

Two cheap pres to travel?

Maybe get one of these and drop in a power conditioner, tuner, and one of these. Under $400.

You can S/PDIF into the MBox, and the inconvenient gain pots in the back of the pres won't be that much of an issue in the road case. Cheap, and pretty clean.

That's my low-end stab, anyway. Good luck.

If you want great preamps and conversion that is portable look no further than the Metric Halo ULN-2. This unit will be powered via firewire from your mac. The preamps and conversion in this unit will be way better than an Mbox 2. You can get superb deals on these second hand. Then deal with mics. A good budget mic is an AT4047, but depends what you want to do.

Yep...amazing piece of kit. Totally portable.

Pre's, conversion, MIO console, support and it works without a hitch. No hyperbole at all.

If the I/O fits your needs I would recommend it also.
