| If you can find one of these for under $200 please lemme know! Been looking for one on ebay for years, can't find one under around $450. Yikes! +1 on the apex / carvin tube mics. Have both, great for the cash. New contribution: Peavey's TBraxx bass pre. Late '80s, early '90s one rack space tube pre, usually cost around $125. Very good sounding unit live and recorded. Ditto that for the furman PQ3 when used as a bass pre. |

Danelectro FAB TONE guitar pedal. These can be had for <$25 on Ebay. Amazingly usable distortion pedal (low and high tone controls). Great for leads that cut through!! Take my word for it, this pedal ROCKS! I use it just as much as my Pete Cornish SS-3, which cost over $600!! |

I'd have to say my samson resolv 40a active studio monitors. I can trust them in any room, in any scenario, and my mixes come out how I intended. I also have the JBL 4328's and mackie 824's which I love but my samson's have never failed me and I picked them up for only $120.

Cad e70 SDC mics - they have served me well as drum overheads, acoustic guitar and sometimes even vocals for a bass preamp, my little secret is an ART TPS rackmount. One channel is broken. It's probably worth around $30 the way it is now but I love what it does on bass. Symetrix SX202 preamps. 2 channels of nice clean gain. I think they have a nice musical sound, even if they're clean. They are not sterile. Very worth the $. I have 2 of them. EH12AY7 preamp. Great for an inexpensive but convincing tube preamp. No frills. Not very high gain though. Best used with mics that have high output. Someone else already mentioned coffee! :-) |

Tough question as there is so much gear under that price range! My favourites are: Sm57 of course tho this is the most obvious but the best £75 quid you will ever spend, (that's how much I got them for from thomann.de) Senn md 421 £ 200 each from eBay I have 3 in my collection and want more lol I love these kicks toms guitar amps bass cabs great buy very versatile mic Akg d12 eBay £200 not everyones favourite drum mic but I low the sound, against the d112, beta 52 and Audix d6 which again are all under 200 Beta 58 for the vocalist that just performs better in front of a dynamic Oh yeah an a good pop sheild ... Priceless lol Those mics are my go to I can mic up a kit and guitars and bass cabs and track voxs (depending on the vocalist) but they are all cheap mics great additions to any collection I know these mics aren't very secret sorry but 75 quid for a sm57 is a great deal especially from a legitimate source Last edited by DisforDorian; 21st January 2012 at 01:23 AM.. Almost any of the old Orban Parametric EQs. If you watch Ebay close enough, you may be able to pick up a stereo unit for around 200.00.

Guitar pedals as external processors. Just set up an effects loop in your DAW to send and receive through your interface and patch in the analog goodness/mayhem. Especially the Electro Harmonix Little Big Muff. I circuit bent one and get all sorts of cool analog dirt, clipping and dirt. Check out my vid: http://carillonaudio.wordpress.com/d...-2/diy-pedals/
