Need a powered sub with my Yamaha MSP-5's

I use a pair of Yamaha MSP-5's powered monitors in my home studio. I am having problems translating my low end, because they do not have a low end.

I am looking for something cheap and semi good, that does not sound like a nasal sounding fart.

Can anyone recommend a cheap and semi good sub for under $300 bucks?

The yamaha sub probably works well with their speakers. I bought a Samson resolv sub 88 to use with Tascam vl-x5 s. It has some downsides (makes sound up to about 300 Hz... though it's quiet there), and the heatsink's a bit small I think. But basically it works and has cutoff freq /phase controls and remote volume, sub volume, system mute and sub mute. I use it turned down pretty low to where it just rounds out the kick drum nicely. It's very cheap in the uk (£160 as opposed to £250 for the yamaha).

If anyone's listened to it against others I'd value comments.
