Glenn, I shipped 6 cases of your traps by air from the USA. I think the shipping was about 2X the price of the traps. Next time I promise to be more patient and ship by sea.

But the room sounds and looks great, it's a super comfy place to just hang out and read or whatever.

Update

I'm getting my room set up for surround (WIP):
http://picasaweb.google.com/ascottk/MyStudioWithABed

Currently there's 14 speakers in this tiny room [6.1 + 2] connected via M-Audio Firewire 410 (s/pdif and/or 8 analogue outs) and Yamaha HTR-5940 AV receiver:
  • Pair Yamaha ns-a637's
  • 1 RCA sub (need to upgrade)
  • 1 RCA center
  • Pair AIWA SX-NA302
  • Pair Behringer MS16
  • 1 big speaker my dad found (rear center). The only thing I know about it is there's a sticker on the top saying "Django Lives!".

SB Audigy 2 ZS to 4.1 Logitech Z-540's

So if nothing sounds good through any of these speakers, I'm doing something terribly wrong. If anything, it's versatile.

It's still a work in progress. I need to get away from the window & get some better speakers and acoustic treament. Once I get a futon to replace the bed (it's takes up half of this room) I'll place the futon behind the desk & move everything towards the center of the room. I plan on getting some outboard gear as well.

I'm so glad i read the whole thread before i posted cause i was just going to say the same thing. 99% of the pics the monitors are too close together. u'll get better results a little further apart and somewhat away from the wall (but not in the center of the room).

AFAIK, we should have the monitors with the same distance between each other and between the listening spot... like a triangle...

bushmaster, i'd look for some sort of absorbtion/diffusion for the walls. you can build some. anything's better than nothing in a room of parallel walls made of dry wall. all those 2-8 k reflections can be a nightmare, let alone the other stuff. but, it's a really nice size room.

Yea I know. I get some some descent sounds the way it is. And the room actually sounds good when a whole band is playing. Check out some of my recordings on my soundclick page. But overlook my abilities as a weekend musician. I just finished the building a year ago and due to medical problems (neck injury) I have not been able to put together some traps. I had surgery two weeks ago and hopefully will be able to put some together this winter and get them up. I mainly just play for my own enjoyment and when I due get traps up, plan on recording some people on the side.

This was before it was finished. The rack is filled now and some other odds and ends have been added.

I'm going home this weekend to set up my low-end room in my parents basement. I live on campus this year and i'm willing to rent a space, so my stuff sits unused most of the school year. But, I've got a new desk, monitors, preamps, drum kit, bass and guitar amps...I'm pretty excited but I'm worried it's not going to fit! Pictures to come for sure.

Saludos! Those are 8040's. I really like them. Nice bottom end. But our control room is very small and not treated well (acoustically) so I had to learn how they sounded in there.

Indeed, I know. I will move things around when the time comes. I am also fully treating the room, wiring a full patchbay system myself, and buying a secondary set of monitors all within the next 5 or so months. So, think of that placement as temporary.

Thanks! A lot of them are demos of completed compositions but I am finishing more and more as my studio becomes more settled.
