Recently finished my little project room. A 2300 sq. foot house and I get a room 6'wide, 9'deep and 8' tall. I have 9 2x4x3 Rockwool panels in here. It sounds great, Have my ears at 38% position and I am so surprised at the lack of eq I have to use now. Used to think is was a software problem, oh no, can't believe I waited so long to treat a room.

Hopefully this works it's my low end studio post that I am trying to cut & paste from another site.....

Finally got a chance to take some more pic's. Been working on the room some. Just built the purple 703 panels. Still have one that I haven't found a home for yet.

If that was the case I'd have sunglasses on for sure;)

Nice treatment!

Are these DIY panels? Have you covered them in heshian?

Looks like a good alternative combo to off the shelf treatments.

Good one!

Thanks! Yes they are diy panels and I actually have 12 panels in the room. Not sure what heshian is. If heshian is burlap than yes it is heshian! Bought 12-3" panels for about 90 dollars from a local supplier. My wife had the burlap and I used 3m spray adhesive to attach the burlap to the panels. Then I made wood spacers from some old 2"x2" wood I had lying around, mounted them to the walls and then attached the panels. 12 panels for under 100 bucks. Took about four hours to do.

F.S.-Nice photos and nice studio.
Thanks for sharing.
1 question though.
Now that you have shared these photos with the world, don't you think it's time the Ampeg finally came out of the closet.

LOL:) It's not my fault the amp is not picky about where or who it hangs out with It's safer in the closet anyway. Less chance of it falling and killing someone that way.

It's an old Sunn, by the way. A piece of local Oregon history.

An old Sunn?
My, I'm feeling older just about now.
Yeah, the Sunn amps were hot when I was in Jr. High.

Yeah, the concepts of low end can be somewhat broad.
However, you can have $50,000.00 of "low to mid priced gear" and still be considered low end (yet still make a nice recording).
Probably better to look at, not how much gear one has but rather, the quality of the signal paths.
Someone could have a home studio with a small number each of high class pres, eq's, compressors etc runnning into a small but high quality console with a number of really nice mics in that $50,000.00 range and be what many might consider hi-end.

Ahhh, but my wife helps finance my gear purchases. She even bought me dual wide screen monitors out of the blue

We are looking at getting a new house soon that I can build a real custom studio in! Can't wait.

I fought and lost that battle myself. I even tried talking her into getting a house with two master suites. I couldn't get her to overlook the fact that it was in a crappy neighborhood and the walls were painted pink and green, though. I might have had a chance if there hadn't been a dirty couch in the front yard when we went to see the house.

No I guess I don't. My wife was away on vacation. Had some free time. Upgraded a few bits of my recording setup and decided I really needed to focus on treatment. The difference is incredible. Can't believe I waited so long. Had a bit of Auralex in my old room, but that deadened only slightly. Still have some Lenrd's(see pictures). Had some strange resonances and learned to adapt. I really thought it was because I was doing it ITB. I used to have a 16 track studio in Atlanta in the 80's, never seem to struggle with mixes. Started recording again in the late 90's, all ITB, and thought convenience was the trade off. For very little money and a few hours work, I wish I had done this ten years ago.

Trying out some speakers I found at the local pawn shop:
  • Three-Way Acoustic Suspension, Magnetically Shielded Bookshelf
  • Woofer = 8 in. Hi-polymer Coated Cone, Midrange = 4 in. Cone, Tweeter = 3/4 in. Dome, Ferro-fluid cooled
  • Input Power Nominal = 70W, Music Input = 140W
  • Frequency Range 90 to 20,000 Hz +/-3 dB
  • Dimensions Width = 10-1/2 in., Height = 16-3/16 in., Depth = 12-1/2 in.
  • Weight 34 lbs.
NS-A637

http://www.imagehosting.com/out.php/...roomStudio.JPG

Yeah, in another thread I was asking about monitors with a smaller footprint

These speakers are not designed to be studio monitors but they are remarkably flat and detailed, they don't color the sound, and they have nice imaging (although lacking in bass but I have a sub to make up for those). I'll post a link later to a remixed & mastered file I did with these speakers as my reference.

BTW, those silly-assed, small POSs on top of the yamahas are the Behr' MS16 I've been using . . . so shoot me! These Yamahas should do until I can get the ADAM A7's.
