| Thanks guys. Those BX8's are aight. The treatment makes WORLDS of difference. I'm gonna save up for some Adam's or Event's, but that won't be anytime soon. The chair was an early b-day present from my wife: OfficeMax Sebastiano Mesh Managers Chair DanH: your stuff sounds good! What kind of mic did you use for vox? |

| We have matching Mesa Combos! What kind of flooring is that? Laminate or hardwood? Whatever it is, it looks pretty. |

The flooring - Nah, thats Mohagany hardwood.. But it has to be redone.. The rookieball that did it, didnt use the paste or whatever it is that glues the peices together and so now some of the peices are slipping out of place and leaving gaps in the floor. Actually, if you look closely, you can see a few of the gaps im talkin about in the floor. Im actually kinda pissed about that. ![]() So now i have to take all the molding off the walls(thank god the booth is fairly small) and redo the whole thing and make sure its glued this time. It looked good when it was first done, so i wasnt aware of the shitty job the guy did. But that seems to be the norm these days. People are only interested in doing half-ass work. ![]()

| First is the live room, second is the control room. It may look cool, but it sounds pretty bad. The control room is so nice to work in, cause you can just sit on the bed for hours and never get tired, ironically. |

| here's a few pics of my room. I've recently got loads of acoustic treatment for the room around the listening position and thinking about some bass traps next. I'm also toying with the idea of selling some of gear on to pay for a nice shiny new ampeg svt2 |

| Gear nut | Heh, low end doesn't even begin to cover it for this room. The live room is 15 by 18 feet (not treated at all) and the control room is 10 x 13 (again, not treated), the guitar amp/vocal room is 8 x 9 (nope, not treated either). Most of the recording below is done with the meager equipment in the studio. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/attac...-version-2.jpg http://www.gearslutz.com/board/attac...-version-3.jpg |

| Before we get to the photo I should explain a few things. We have our studio set up in my brother's friend's grandma's (yes, that's right) house. It's a tacky, ostentatious mansion, with red carpet and chandeliers galore, a million bedrooms, indoor fountains, squash court, disco room and recording studio. There's also a good chance the house was used as a brothel at some point. The guy who built it was an Indian doctor, who also dealt drugs on the side. Being a drug dealer, he annoyed some people higher up in the chain and was promptly murdered. However, while not being murdered, he fancied himself as a bit of a Bollywood singer, and hence the recording studio. With the Good Doctor gone, my brother's friend's awesome eccentric property-investing grandma bought the place. We already had a small studio at home, but Grandma was more than happy to have us move it to her house. It's attached to the maid's quarters at the back, with its own bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. We have our own set of keys to come and go as we please - the house is so big that it's unlikely the sound makes it to Grandma's living area. Essentially, it's a studio with a history of drugs, sex and Bollywood. Anyway, the Good Doctor did not know much about acoustic treatment for studios, and the walls are completely covered in a sea of grey acoustic foam. As a result, the room sounds very dead. However, the isolation between the control room and vocal booth is quite good. The gear: Focusrite Liquid Saffire Pro 56 (not pictured) Behringer DDX3216 mixer (now used as a rudimentary control surface until we buy a proper one) TL Audio Fat Man Fat1 Roland RS-5 keyboard (had it since I was 12) Emu Proteus 2000 Alesis Point Seven monitors (had them since I was 13) PC running Cubase 4.5, Spectrasonics Stylus RMX and Atmosphere, various free plugins AKG C3000B mic The laptop and Novation X-Station are used for composing at home. As you can see, the monitoring and acoustics situation needs to be sorted out. A few more microphones wouldn't be bad, either. Please excuse the bad photo taken with my phone. The photo was taken earlier this year, before we got the Focusrite interface. Note the ubiquitous brothel-red carpet. |

| Wow, great story! A ****ing squash court! are you kidding!!!? I love squash, I'd be in heaven working there... and very sweaty. sounds like fun, I imagine guitar amps like half a house away in some wacky sounding foyer... very "U2 at slane castle", man. |

I would love to post some photos of the house itself, but I'm not sure if Grandma would appreciate photos of her house being uploaded for all to see. Edit: I found some photos of the studio from 2007, before we moved our stuff in. I thought I'd post them to give an idea of what the room itself is like.

| I'm a bit embarrassed to post pics after seeing the places in this thread but here goes. Mainly I do music for film (if you watch the NG Channel chances are you have heard something I have done), guitar tracks through ftp and mixing. My setup works pretty good for what I need it to do. Oh, and yes, I still have DA-88s. You would be amazed how many people ask for surround stuff to be delivered on DA-88 Master. Once in a while I get stuff in on DA-88 as well. ![]() Since I do a lot of guitar work I find that having some distinct sounding guitars makes things a lot easier. ![]() I also have a few really nice sounding amps. I have a Soldano that's not in the pic. Honestly, my 53 Fender Deluxe which you can kind of see gets 99% of the work. ![]() ![]() I have an electronic kit that doesn't get much use but when I need it I can use it (the kids like it!). I just use a VI for the sounds. I can't build a machine room, so I have my computers in the closet. I drilled a hole through the baseboard and got one of those cable pass throughs at Lowes for about $4.00. ![]() |

| Gear interested | Hey guys, here's my home setup. I use it for small edits and ideas. I roam around here alot for research, but don't post much. tutt I don't sit on the blue stool, but was putting up some extra sound dampening on the ceiling earlier that day so don't mind that! ![]() Last edited by Bishop; 12th July 2010 at 07:40 PM..
