| Gear nut | One room... BLA Digi002R, 01v, quadcore pc w/ PTLE & Reaper, all mics under $1k, etc... first pic is taken at the middle. Pic two is a shot of our drummer tracking some rough demos. Same room, other side, low ceilings. The drum shield is for my benefit, not his, because the computer is on the other side of it as seen in the fist pic. When we would track we'd cover the pc with a packing blanket to minimize fan noise. In fact I use packing blankets alot. At some point I'll get some gobos/baffles, etc... All tracks recorded here, mixed at Smart Studios (shot of their Trident included for fun), mastered at Colossal in Chicago. CD released last week. Web: Tangy "Sorta Like Very Ultra" Samples (from the cd): "Testify" "Believe Me" "SortaLikeVeryUltra" Rough mix, non-master: "Galaxy Gramophone"

| Gear Head | Songwriter's digs..that's all. Two Korg D32XD's in sync (gives me 32 @ 24) with Cubase LE for sequencing, Melodyne, etc...don't know how I got it all working together but it does beautifully..couple Portico units, PCM 91, some beautiful guitars and an iso room off camera...Barely a pimple on some studios here, but I'm thrilled everytime I step in there :) ![]() |

| Gear maniac | Who're you kidding? K+H O 300D's low-end? Virus? RME? Sparse, maybe, but nowhere near low-end. Those monitors alone are considered one of the best nearfields ever made (I'm a proud owner too). BTW, you might want to consider taking your K+H's off those Auralex Mopads. If you do a search here on gearslutz you'll see my thread about how they actually made my K+H's sound worse. To get improvement on your monitors, the amount of weight on the Mopads has to be significant enough, and the K+H's are too light so you actually make the sound worse. There's a competitor's product to the Mopads out now that actually has a steel plate included to add weight and those are much, much better. The Auralex people are bastards for not putting any kind of a disclaimer on their Mopads--telling people the truth--that you much have enough weight to your monitors or else they make you monitors sound worse. |

| Gear maniac | Ahh they're some cheap hi-fi speaker stands that i picked up from some random shop. I've now ordered proper monitor stands as i was told that ideally the monitors shouldn't be on the desk. Quote:
Primacoustic - Acoustical Solutions I read about it on another forum. I noticed that you have your monitors resting on another pair of speakers. Isn't this degrading the sound as well since the support isn't solid enough? I've just ordered ultimate stands for my monitors & was planning on using them with the mopads.

I don't have my K+H's on top of those speakers anymore. I currently have them on wooden panels painted with acrylic paint, and then the wooden panels rest on a different set of speakers. It's a temporary placement as I'm about to move to a "proper" studio, where I'll probably put my K+H's on speaker stands. But I'll tell you this though--I have not noticed any problems with my K+H's placed on another pair of speakers, and in fact they sound far better that way than on those Mopads. On the Mopads the bottom was very boomy and muddy.
