| Hello, Been watching this forum for months and thought it to be the right time for me to begin sharing my obsession for ear pleasing recordings and of course...the gear for the job. So let me start off by saying..hello...my name (screen name) is Juggernaut and I'm a sound gear junkie. I seem to spend most of my free time recording or mixing or shopping online for good deals on gear to expand my home studio. I think that falls under the gear slutz rules of participation (guess I should have read all the small print in the registry)I'm a vocalist for 3 bands and record my vocals for the 3 here at my home studio. When I'm not recording myself I am helping out other musician's with their recording and producing needs. I haven't started charging anybody anything as of yet because I feel that I haven't enough experience nor the high end gear that charging studios do have. I've been dabbling allot lately with midi. Awesome tool for the soloist! Anyways I won't tie your beautiful Sunday Evening up any longer than I have too. I'll be around to leave feedback, share, ask questions, talk gear, talk technic, collaborate and hope to learn allot here! I leave you with a tune called "Scratch4" that was vocally recorded and mixed at my home studio seen below. http://www.ancientcross.com/scratch4.htm ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Longtime lurker in this thread. Finally "finished" with the garage makeover. Basically a control room with a vocal booth. Still in the process of putting together more slutty gear, but the room is sounding GREAT! Thanks to Glenn and Bryan at GIK for the help (and the 13 awesome panels...). Thanks for looking....

| Just finished last week ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I just finished my room last week. A friend and I have been working on it a few hours just about every Sunday for the last six months. It was my detached garage in my back yard (notice the garage door rail above the drums and desk). Now it's my rock palace. We framed inner walls, insulated, installed double entry doors, and put in new lighting. We hooked up the gear last weekend. After all of this I temporarily ran out of budget for mic stands, so nothing has been recorded yet. Soon, soon. Attachment 46410Attachment 46411Attachment 46412Attachment 46413 |

I like your room. Looks like a very chill atmosphere to write and record. I'm hoping one day to be able to move my studio to a large room like that so it's not so cramped and I can add a couch as well.

It is very chill, low light and mellow. I used it earlier this evening to kick back on the couch and watch one of my favorite rock movies. Very relaxing. I'm new to the pro tools... do you know how can I set up the dvd player on my mac to utilize my monitors instead of my computer speakers?

If your ProTools audio device is turned on, and if it has a proper OSX device driver, it will show up in the list of devices to select. I don't use ProTools hardware so I don't know if it will show up in the list, but my firewire sound device does show up. The ProTools hardware must be turned on in order for it to show up in the list. As an alternative, for my setup, I use an external mixing device (Central Station) with the monitors connected to that device and run my 'pro' audio device to one input and the Mac's digital output to another input and just switch between devices on th CS. You may be able to do something similar if your protools hardware has an optical digital input, just plug your Mac's digital out into that and then monitor the digital input. This second approach wont buy you anything if ProTools device shows up in the System Preferences > Sound page but for me using the CS saves me from turning on my external gear to route MAc audio to my nice monitors

| There have been one or two changes since these were taken, but this is pretty much how it is these days. I built this in part of a small industrial unit, and it is 90% solar powered. I only have to kick the generators in during winter for the most part. All the lighting is low energy, and I only turn on the gear I'm actually using.... I have Mackie Tracktion 3 running on the PC and Logic 8 on the Mac. Should mention there is a heck of a lot of rockwool hiding behind the acoustic foam in most cases. Both of these rooms took a lot of taming down. They work very nicely now. Andy |

| Gear Head | Here's some quick shots of my two room setup, most of my gear is instruments as you can see, I do a lot of ITB atm, but that's a decision my wallet has made, not me. ![]() Every thing's a mess right now, but I guess that means we've been busy which is a good thing right? You can hear some recordings I've made with this gear at MySpace.com - Kyma Studios - MOBILE, Alabama - Other - www.myspace.com/kymastudios.

| "How are the Resolvs anyway?" Hi DivineChemical...thanks for your post. I find the Samson crisp and precise maybe a tiny, tiny bit hissy; but (when set up with acoustic tiles and stands) certainly good enough to hear detail in the difficult areas. They are not cold sounding. Some problems with reliability: After testing all the monitors in my price range (Reveals, KRK, Truths, etc.) the Samson sounded best (i.e. offered sharpest imaging and clarity): I bought the monitors at GAK in the UK and when I got the unit home one of the switches was faulty (bad moulding) and I had to take the monitor back to GAK (at my expense) and they replaced it. The replacement monitor hisses slightly which is different to the original but by the time I sussed this it was too late and too much hassle to go back to GAK...they have a habit of bad service in my experience...anyway I'm an ex-customer now so that's cool. I bought the sub about 6 months ago from DV247 and as soon as I plugged it in there was a problem with one RCA output cutting intermittently...I tested it and it was sent back for re-soldering - I waited about 3 months...still hadn't heard back...phoned up...told delivery (UPS shipping) was arriving...sub came back with damage on 3 top corners (obviously it had been dropped upside down)...waited in another day for them to pick up the sub...waited in for redelivery...didn't turn up - another wasted day. Arrived about 2 weeks ago (after original purchase 6 months ago). Bought Samson stands which are OK but badly finished for the price although they do the job well. Next time I will spend more money on a good set of British-made stands. Sorry - bit of a therapy session for me. Soundwise it suits me fine - I've got a damn good (prosumer) monitoring system for £370...which is all I can afford. It sounds good to me and is clear and articulate...I can 'feel' the sound even at low levels. Musicians and friends who come to record are impressed by the sound the monitors produce. More importantly my mixes translate well to other systems from ghetto blasters through to hi-fi...only probs '220-250' region but that's my room acoustics. Best, 101 .PS love everyones studios...sometimes a budget makes you strive like the bluesmen. |

| Hey, I'm looking for (more) folks to spotlight their home studio on my website. I have 6 guys on the site thus far and it's time for an update. It's a good place to share more about yourself and share more photos. Take a look and see the six I have on the site currently and let me know if you are interested! Thanks and happy new year! HSG |
