I believe in magic.

I just don't believe it belongs in science.

Science may reveal the reality behind what once seemed like magic -- that's what science does -- but until it does, what seems like magic should be treated as just that.

____________

Or to put it another way... Mystery and magic are like a beautiful woman. Science is like a lustful man. Knowledge is what happens when he gets in her pants...

----------------------
[UPDATE: I just want to say that I really do believe in magic and mystery and think they are complementary things with science... kind of like the sea and the shore. Or something. I just think science is how we pin down what we know for sure so that we can avoid confusion when we're contemplating the deeper mysteries... OK... this stuff is hard to talk about. At any rate, I'm not running down magic -- or attributing "magical thinking" to anyone! These comments are just a sidebar riff on what I see as the imporance of both magic and mystery. Hope that helps clarify what I was getting at!]

No mystery to that beautiful woman...

But the knowledge gained could be of the sadder-but-wiser variety.

What's the line from the old Mars Bonfire epic?

"Love is like the bald-headed end of a broom / and it empties your pockets as well..."

I just wanted to take the liberty of adding one (presumably last) post to this thread as there had been a brief but unseemly dust-up over a mix-up in communication here in just the last few (now deleted posts).

-- I received a very gracious personal message from jslevin explaining how our communications had gone awry.

I thought it was really decent and very kind of him to do that.

It might sound sappy but I wanted anyone nutty enough to still be lurking this thread to know that everything is straightened out and no one is mad anymore.

cheers

Actually, I though you all for the most part, remained very civil despite your disagreements. There might have been a few exceptions.

That's some funny shit.

Sorry if I missed it, but you all were speaking strictly about AD conversion? Not DA , correct?

I can't remember... I think so.

I thought that post was pretty funny, too. It's risky biz calling folks p.a.b.'s but, you know, sometimes it seems to be pretty theatrical/tongue-in-cheek...

Anyhow, yeah, I thought mostly everybody was pretty cool. Me and JSL just got our wires crossed for a minute there --so there ain't nothing really there. Anymore, anyhow.

And like I said, he was very gracious when he contacted me to straighten things out. I'll tell you what, we all can misunderstand what someone is saying (especially when the guy talking talks in circles half the time like I do) but it takes a cool guy to reach out and make things right. I was impressed.

Now... I'm gettin' all sentimental and brotherly lovey... I think I better go get in a political gutter fight in the Politics board at MySpace... that'll wipe the silly we're-all-brothers-and-sisters grin off my face.

continuing in the "peace, love and understanding" theme this thread has now adapted, I think we should all be grateful that we've found something in life we're passionate about: music and great sounds.. Just think, we could be on some other message board arguing which American Idol contestant is best or whether Paris deserves to go to jail or not, but instead we're here furthering our knowledge and debating the fine points of something we've all happily dedicated our lives to.

That is a beautiful thing..
