Thread Starter | anyone know any good distortion for vox?
hey thanks for checking out my post. in the studio i've been using amp sims for vocal distortion and with some tweaking its usually come out pretty well. i'm about to go on tour and i was wondering if anyone knew of some decent distortion boxes for guitar or anything else that sounds good with vocals. i havent found a processor that was designed for vocals that had a distortion feature and i also can't take software on the road. any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks! -jen |

Don't know if it's a good one or not but I've used Amplitube with some success on vocals. Thought it turned out OK. You've got to play with it quite a bit to get a useable sound but it was that or UAD-1's Nigel and Amplitube seemed to work much better.

Sorry, misread your post. There's a Digitech vocal processor that looks like a multiFX stompbox but it's designed for vocals. My band uses one live for every show. It's easy to interface with XLR's and is designed for vocals. Has lo-fi sounds and distortion. Just experiment with it b/c when we first got it all we heard from it was feedback. You've got to back off the level knob quite a bit but it's a cool piece for sure.

i've seen digitech vocal 300 & boss se-50 used for live vocal distortion. as stated above, if yer gonna use distoriton live expect lotsa feedback, & keep away from the monitors. might think about using some sort of multiband pitch shifter (+1, -1, +2, +2), white noise vocoder or a preamp you can overdrive for a similar effect. |

The Roland GP-100 does a good job for vocal distortion effects even though it is primarly a guitar preamp.
