Tascam DA-30 mkII... how well does it work as a standalone converter?

I'm basically looking to expand I/O on my Digi002R, and I really only need SPDIF output to bring my bring my output capabilities to 18 channels. I use my Joemeek TwinQ to go SPDIF in, and everything is clocked from that. Anyone who's used this, how are the converters in it? I currently use the Digi002R's analog outs as well as the outputs of the Behringer ADA8000, so I guess it can't be any worse. I'm actually content with my conversion for the time being, and as much as I'd like to drop 600 bucks on the RME ADI-2, most of that dough is better spent elsewhere (acoustic treatment, mics). What are your thoughts? Stupid question, but is there an issue with getting analog output in real time with the digital input? I've used the DA-30 (original) a lot for live recording, but never in this way.
