Placing rear-ported monitors in front of absorbers?

Hello slutz,

I recently built 4 of Airmate's Dope Traps for which the comany finally has acoustic measurements available (page 6 shows the plot for a thickness of 160 mm).

I will be placing them on the wall behind my monitors

Now I'm planning on upgrading my monitors and am considering the dynaudio BM6A MKIIs which have rear bass ports.

So my questions are: does it make sense to place rear-ported monitors in front of broad-band absorbers or would that defeat the purpose? Should I get front-ported monitors instead?

it makes a lot of sense.....

The frequencies you want from the port are omnidirectional. The frequencies you don't want (port noises from whistling and such) are more directional and now pointed away from you.
