Thumbs up BLA Mod using a lightpipe pre

First post, long time reader and lurker on the forums. I am hoping this thread can kind of be the 'official' answer to this question, which I believe has had many conflicting answers. An official response from BLA would be great.

QUESTION:

Many use a pre connected via lightpipe to get additional channels (ex: ISA 428, M-Audio Octane etc), and you usually go into the hardware setup menu in protools and select ADAT as your clock source when using these pre's to avoid clicking and popping. AFTER recieving the BLA mod, when you repeat this same process, WILL YOU or WILL YOU NOT experience popping, clicking, etc.? I think we have all heard mixed responses on this, and having a definitive answer would be great. Thank you.

PS: If anyone HAS the bla mod and has experienced this, or not experienced this, post your setup and whether or not you experienced a problem. Please do not post speculation if you don't have the BLA mod, I am trying to get a definitive answer.

Okay, so i don't have BLA mod, but i do have a 002R - which a lot of people have a lot of problems RE: clicking and popping.

I use an external clock, and i have no problems with clicking and popping through my ADAT connection.

However, I do know that the BLA mod does stabilize the clock within the "Mother unit" so it should solve any clocking issues, re: popping etc.

However, in all honesty - unless you are running the exact setup that those you seek advice from, you'll struggle to get a definitive answer since there are a lot of variables that people can take into consideration imo.

But back to the point in hand, the mod should correct any issues and erradicate the popping etc providing all other potential factors are to their highest ( cables, tight connections etc ).

I have a BLA 002R and have never experienced any problems of any kind with the ADAT or S/PDIF. The 002R syncs when it should and I've used it on both PC & Mac.

Just the type of response I was looking for. Everything works great with my 002r right now, never have had any issues except the common power supply replacement and I just want to avoid future problems. There is no point in upgrading if I lose some functionality. Any more experiences?

My experience with my BLA modded 002R and an Audient ASP008 via lightpipe have been documented elsewhere on this site. I know there are people on this site as well as at least one of the guys at Audient that have 002R's (non-BLA) and have no problems with them playing together... so, I'm not really sure what to think.

I never had any problems running conversion via ADAT with the 002 as slave (or master) before or after the mod.

You might read a couple of people are having problems with their ADAT ports after the mod, which may or may not be to do with BLA at all (maybe shipping damages or something...who's to say,) which might scare you off. But just think about all the happy customers who haven't had any problems (most of which probably don't post here.)

If you have the 002, and you use it for anything other than a dongle, you owe it to yourself to get it to BLA. The mod RULES!

Yeah, it is definitely worth it. I see that they are now offering more upgrades: replacing/isolating the converters and replacing/isolating the power supply.

Damn! I see that! I wish they had mentioned something about that when I got mine modded just recently...
