Mixing room in basement with 6ft. ceiling

I'm getting ready to rent a house with a huge basement. The only problem is that the ceiling is 6ft. high. I plan on building a false wall to make more of an enclosed area and also treating the room. Could I make this work as a mixing studio or will there be issues with the ceiling being so low?

Thanks slutz,

EYEvan

umm, are you sure thats the right #? There will most definitely be issues with comb filtering/reflections. You dont really have any room to spare to put up any treatment. You'll also have problems with claustrophobia and standing (for tall people)...

Sure you can mix in there - but there are definite issues with low ceilings - especially that low.

I'd watch cutting things down too much. I'd be trying to leave a bit larger space to get more cubic footage to at least attempt to get some compensation for the low ceiling.

While it may not be desirable, you're going to have to put a cloud over your seated mix position or you're going to have serious modal issues right in the drum range.

you are going to have to treat the hell out of the room, but you can make it work.
But you now have a maximum height limit on your clients. I have 7 foot and it's been a challenge but it sounds pretty good in here. You can see some pics of my control room at www.musiclabnyc.com

Thanks for your input guys! I know it is not the ideal situation but it's the only room I have to work with at the moment. I'll try your suggestions and hopefully come up with some sort of workable environment.

Thanks Again!
