New Drum Track Question...

Hey guys,
I was tracking some drums for our demo Saturday and we were rushed because we were double booked, suppose to have the room 9-9, ended up having it 3-9, kinda hectic.

Anyway, lately I've been setting up a pair of SDCs up in the Glyn Johns OH setup that's been recommending a lot... to which we added a kick, front of kick, snare, split the middle toms, and the floor tom.

The hi hat's coming out kinda bad, but I think it's the way they're ringing together, I didn't like it in the room, but the drummer wouldn't change it... that might just be an
"oh well"...

But I'm also getting a cymbal problem in general... the high end's hyped a bit, I think a tad from phasing and a tad (or more) from cheap mics and a cheap interface. I tried to get the two OHs aligned, but the sound's still there even with them solo'ed. And what's weird is the attack and trail of the cymbals are separated. IE: The high crash by the hi hat is pretty much hard right because of the OH, but the tail of the cymbal fades/pans toward the center of the mix. Now, this wouldn't be SO bad (since this is a DIY project) if the phasing didn't get pronounced as the tail pans to center.

I'm sure this is something very rudimentary, so I'm sorry, but I'm just a bit stumped. I've seemed to have this problem every time I use that OH setup, and I figure it's a good setup on the account of how much it's praised and the fact that it seems logical... So, it's something I'm doing (or not doing), but figuring that out's been a bit of a pain.

Anyone have any suggestions for next time I try this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time.

EDIT: The room was pretty nice, so I don't think that was it... I'll post some pics when I get home. It was in the School of Music here at LSU and it's been treated pretty well... So, I'm pretty sure it's a problem on my end.

short delay to fix phasing issues...if in fact this is the problem sdc's are generally bright by their nature and it sounds like you're just getting some nasty room sounds...maybe...idk just a thought
