i got 10 pieces of the pyramid foam from a friend today 2 feet long, my room is really bad sounding lots of mids sounds like a box and i put it up and it's treating the room a bit, i'm wondering if i should put more up is it worth it? is it going to make a world of difference my room is plywood walls no insellation and tile ceilings 11X15 with carpet floor with concrete underneath basement studio

i'll bite.

the auralex stuff is "only going to help to an extent"... and that extent is not nearly as far reaching or as effective as something on the order of rigid fiberglass insulation OR mineral wool.

if you got it cheap, you might as well put it up to soften things up... but if your room is sounding boxy, the only thing that's going to help is to take the corners out of the equation. i.e. corner bass traps.

good luck!

Your money would be better spent buying and building 703 fiberglass panels into some nice 2x4 foot sound panels.

FOAM BY MAIL is worthless for acoustic-treatment !!!
(read more on the realtraps site...)

covering all (or at least some of) your corners (floor to ceiling) with DIYed Fiberglass Panels, covered in fabric!
or for even better performance and less hassle, buy some GIK-Traps or Realtraps!

...add some more panels mounted 45° between wall/ceiling!

this will do much more basstrapping than ANY foam-based product can do, some of the auralex stuff scattered around the walls will help taming flutter-echoes, and provide additional hi/hi-mid absorption...but you don´t wanna overdo it!

any kind of closed-cell foam will do NOTHING!
it´s not rocket science, but you can´t fool some basic physics-laws either!
and again...FOAM BY MAIL will NOT help you with your room sound. period!

Tom is right on the money on all counts.

Deal with the issues with good broadband absorbtion.

I really hope you're messing around, that stuff does little more than look like something that should be in a studio.

Auralex and FBM are 2 completely different things. If you insist on using foam, Auralex is the only way I'd personally go. The FBM is pure crap.

That said, fiberglass/mineral wool will work better and cheaper than the Auralex foam.

Foam is wimpy and dangerous real men use 703

Got to agree with the fibreglass fans, better, safer, cheaper.

While you are at it try some C.P. Boner polycylinders or even just some angled panels. Break up the parallel walls / ceiling / floor. That will make the room sound "better". Dead is not better, it's just dead. It makes the room go away which is not always the best thing.
