| Cheap EQ for FOH - Behringer Tube Ultra-Q or Cheap Graphic? I have a couple of cheap graphic EQs for my FOH setup - an Art 341 and an Art 351. I'm running a different setup this weekend and I'm thinking of buying two more EQ channels. I like the idea of parametric EQ and the Behringer T1951 Tube Ultra-Q is in the right price range - except it's Behringer and I'm not real keen on wiggly knobs and tubes backlit with LEDs so they look kewl. My gut says I'd be better off with another 341 or some other low end graphic EQ (DBX 215, or ...?). The presonus EQ3B isn't quite as scary as the Behringer, but it isn't rack mount, needs a wall wart, and I'd need two of them. Anyone disagree with my gut?

| DBX eq's are great for the price. id not be game to take behringer gear live, let alone using it as FOH inserts. its an easy way to make a great band sound dull. Jude

| since the signal passes through the eq, and if the eq dies the signal dies with it, reliability is really more important than sound quality in this case I think. that berry unit sounds very very good actually, but it's more of a studio thing where you can baby it. |

| The Behringer you speak of really isn't bad. Not great, but not bad. But it would SUCK in a live situation, for the sole reason of the knobs: IMPOSSIBLE to see where you are in the dark. It was hard enough in a lit room with a Furman putting light on it from directly above. Horrible knobs on that thing. That said, theres nothing wrong with those ART EQs. The DBXs are fine, but maybe only a little better than the ARTs. If you are looking for something different, definately get yourself an Ashly parametric, like the PQ26 or something. You'll still need a graph, but the parametric should satisfy your desires otherwise. I scored a PQ26 in perfect shape on the Bay for $150. Of course, if you had the dough, an Ashly graphic is leaps and bounds above the dbx and ART graphics. |
