I had one as my first digital mixer

I found for the 1100 i paid for it, it really was a good mixer with tdif out so I could record 8 tracks into an Aardvark tdif card. The effects are a bit limiting and there is only 2 channels of compression from what I remember. I ended up using it more for live gigs seeing as the it was a bit noisey for the studio. I found the preamps to have limited gain for vocals thus leading to turn the gain up really high (therefore increasing the noise)

Mind you if you could grab it for about 300 (Thats what I saw one go for at a local music store) I would grab it seeing as you could definitely make it work by buying some outboard pres and going into the line level.

It had never failed me once in 3 years and I really do have a soft spot for the mixer because I remember how hard I had to work to get it.

Hope this helps

I used to have one. IN a certain configuration you get 4 channels of compression. Doing so gets rid of all other effects, though. I think it's kind of a confused mixer, though each channel having 3-band parametric EQ is nice, plus 8 mic pres and SPDIF out.

I ultimately got rid of it, as I just couldn't find anything to do with it. IT can't be used as a Pro Tools or Reason controller and I found it somewhat hard to use. Probably would be great as a live sound mixer for a small portable set up, due to the 8 pres and builtin effects. With the TDIF-to-ADAT option and an ADAT, could be a cool mobile recording rig, I guess.

Of course, if you don't have a A/D converter and need one, this will work very easily.

If you're satisfied with 4 preamps and 4/8 line inputs and you use it as cheap AD converter it could be usefull. Mixing/routing wise it's limited. You have to remember this was the most affordable digital mixer 8 years ago, you could expand it to get 16 inputs with the ma-ad8. I used it together with a Soundscape (now SSL) mixtreme and this was a nice (killer ) setup at that time.

If it's for computer based recording i'd rather buy a cheap controller (Behringer)and some interface now.

I used to use one of those with an ADAT XT before I moved over to Pro Tools. It was a good little mixer, interesting effects.

To be honest, the most fun I had with it was doing the voice octave down or up effect, making myself sound like satan or a twisted chipmunk, and prank calling friends.

It would be fun to have around for kicks, but if it were more useful I would probably still have it.

Just as a note, there are 8 mic preamps on this board, however only channels 1-4 have XLR inputs. You can plug an XLR-to-1/4" into channels 5-8 and use them as pres no problem.

I had one for a while - I found it noisy and it sounded unpleasantly "thin". There was also a deal of zipper noise when adjusting effects in real time. Not unhappy to see it go...
