two more bass traps, where best to put them?

I have a typical small room studio setup, room is about 10x12 or so. I have my desk at one end along the 10 foot side, with my listening position not quite halfway into the room. I currently have four bass traps, 3 in wall/wall corners and one on the wall ceiling corner directly behind me. The last wall/wall corner is not treatable because the door opens into it. I just got two more bass traps, my question is where should I put them? I have three wall/ceiling spots available (two on the sides and one in front of my listening position). Where's best to put the traps with only two?

Thanks!

Bass is going to build up in all corners, but you may want to focus them to the front of the room. I would put them along the front wall. One other thing you could try (this may or may not work better) is to put them on the back wall behind where you sit. I would space them off the wall 4 inches if you can. Corners are always best for bass trapping, but you do pick up a lot of nulls and peaks off the back wall.

Thanks for the reply Glenn. When you say focus on the front wall, you mean the wall itself, not the wall/ceiling corner? I always thought the corners were the first places to go. Am I wrong to have my existing bass traps in the corners?

Any idea how mount them 4 inches from the wall (with your bass traps?)

I mean straddle the wall/ceiling on the front wall.

Oh you have our stuff? Well hell you payed so you get the "call GIK for free advice pass", it is good for life BTW. So really man if you do have questions give me a call on our toll free line. It is not like you are calling some dude on a cell phone where you have to pay for the call.

For spacing off the wall you can hang the panel like a picture and slip a peice of wood or PVC piping cut to 4" between the wall and the panel. The weight of the panel will keep it in place.

Most rooms do better with broadband bass absorption than with absorption that targets a narrow range. I suggest you start a new thread in the Studio Design or Bass Traps section of Gearslutz, and include the size of your room and maybe a few photos. In the mean time, these links will get you started:
