Basstraps and FRK facing

Hello all,

Since shipping basstraps from the States to Europe is so damn expensive, I've decided to build my own. From what I've read, the most common product used is Owens-Corning type 703 and 705, which comes with an optional FRK facing. O-C product are not available in my area, but I found a simliar fiberglass product for sound absorption and isolation, at 75 kg/m3 (4.7 pcf).

However, this product doesn't come with FRK facing. I'll be building two kinds of traps: 4" thick for corners and 2" thick for first reflections, and would like to have FRK on the 4" thick (corner basstraps).

So (finally), my question is: can I use this material (see picture below) on the fiberglass front panel? Does it look like FRK? I've never had a FRK fiberglass in my hands, but saw some pics... it looked like a thin metal/aluminium paper glued on it. I want to apply FRK to improve the low end and to avoid making the room too dead sounding.

Thanks for reading all of this, and for any answer... !

I believe that the FRK is more of a "craft paper" like you'd wrap meat in or use to fill empty space in a packing box.

The stuff you show should work too, as would a limp piece of vinyl or rubber.

Well, after some more research about what the hell is FRK...

FRK = Foil Reinforced Kraft. It may be just luck that it works well for acoustic / sound absorption purpose, since it is primarily used as a vapor barrier / ******er facing. Some pics:

I would give them a call and just ask. If you can try to find the thickness and weight of FRK and the other stuff you found. If the same then you could be set.
