The only trouble I've had with budget cable is what happens after a couple of years of hard use. If they're cheap enough, buying a new set every 5 years isn't bad - lost cables are dealt with on a regular basis......

By work, I suspect he meant that he was able to plug them into the XLR connectors with no issue. That's what most companies mean when they do QA on their gear.
