Ramsa WR S4424 appraisal help hi all! i'm thinking about checking one of these out. i am currently requesting details about the unit from the buyer, but the item description says it's virtually new and pix look nice. i can't seem to find any info about when these things were made, just some random comments on here which make it sound ok. but here's the thing. many expired ebay auctions make it sound like these should be under 1000. i've seen the 12 and 16 channel ones selling for 200-370 recently. the guy is asking 2000 since he paid 4000 new (but i don't know when)! ![]() i'm interested in getting this to "upgrade" from my mackie 1402-vlz. thanks!

This is indeed an upgrade from the Mackie. I have a lot of experience with this board, though it is all live. The preamps are great, the EQ is nice but subtle, and the overall sound of the board is fantastic. I have seen the 24 channel versions go for around $500 at their cheapest. I'd say the fair market price for these would be $500-$600 depending on condition. Even with that seeming to be the going price, I'd say they are undervalued boards. They should be going for around $1000. $2000 is WAY too much for this console, considering you can wait around on ebay and pick one up for a 1/4 of the price. The seller probably did pay $4000 for it years ago, but unfortunately these lost a lot of value. If he doesn't want to budge on the price, walk away from the sale. There are sweet deals to be had... I just got a Soundtracs MX series 24 channel board for $1000, which I feel is better than the WS4424.

It's not a very complicated board for any knowledgeable tech to deal with... besides, its one of the most resilient pieces of gear I've ever worked with. I have personally used it every weekend for 4 straight summers for an outdoor folk concert series. Rain, hail, extreme winds... sometimes overnight for multiple nights (in the rain)... Its been all over the East Coast for every conceivable kind of show, getting its case knocked over and beaten on by the local IATSE, and not once in the past 5 years since I started working on it has it needed repair. Works like a champ. It's not exactly built like a tank, as the frame is a little wobbly, but this console has outlasted new Allen & Heath GL series boards. So I wouldn't really worry about servicing issues.
