Anyone know about these boom stands

So I went on a search to try to find decent boom stands for my humble studio. I was tried of putting dumbell weights on my current mic stands. I found these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting

Has anyone ever seen them?? Please let me know if you have and if you can own them, take some different pics of them. Thanks in advance.

I've got a few of their lighting stands, and they are pretty great for the money...

Is this even a boom stand for mics?

taking 5 seconds to read the ebay description taught me this:

Each boom offers maximum support with minimum bulk and solid locking capabilities with quickness and ease perfect for setting up beautifully backlit backgrounds, or just the right hair light. The DynaTran™ Pro Series Booms are built for precision, directional light control.

poopies, that is true. Is the threading on the end any different that the little mic clip adapters?

Anyone know if these would work anyway?

It looks a lot like a Bogen/Manfrotto light stand.

Grip gear can work great for mics, but you have to have the right threaded stud to mount the shockmount to.

I like to use a boom arm clamped in a C-stand knuckle.

I would much rather use a C-stand than that roller job; much more stable.

I am going to try to look into seeing if someone can re-thread it for me, not sure if this is possible. Do they make any adapters that can convert the threading?

If it's 5/8" x 27 tpi, this will work.

If you have a Matthews grip head, a Manfrotto Super Clamp or something it'll work. Superclamp has a safety pin in addition to a threaded clamp.

Here's how it would look.

This is a 414 shockmount on a mic stand boom that's mounted to a C-stand by the gobo head.

There's a counterweight attached to the lowest leg.

This is a lot more stable than most mic stands, unless you're talking about a Latch Lake or something.

C-stands are good for micing drumkits because it's easier to get the legs to fit in tight spots.

This is a 20" C-stand, also referred to as a Coleman (as in Gary, since it's short). It goes up to about five feet.

A regular 40" C-stand extends to about eight feet, IIRC.

I will definitely check into that, it sounds like a great option. Thank you.

Also, in the mean time, anyone have any other options for mic stands. I am really trying to get some good overhead stands. Currently I am just putting the OH stands on chairs to get them a little higher, (they are the crappy ones you get from GC).

I will also need a couple of those about that size. I guess I am just going to research the sizes I need first. But if you have ideas let me know. thanks!
