the TC M3000 has taken a big price hit recently - maybe not exactly 'Low End', but still cheap for what it is. And it does small / big / weird spaces very nicely.

Even the TC m2000. You could probably pick one up used for under $500.

Yes, avoid Behringer!
There are so many items on the used market:

Roland SRV 2000, SRV 330
Sony R7
Yamaha ProR3
Lexicon LXP15 (II), MPX500
Dynacord DRP15

If you want a really good chartacter verb that is on the cheap, you need to check out the Ibanez SDR 1000 unit. These were actually made by Sony for Ibanez and can be had for around $100.00 on the used market. It is a single rack space true stereo reverb. I have one in my rack and I love it on drums. It is a sort of grainy verb but really useful in my opinion. It is very editable too. It would be better than the Behringer in my opinion.

The Sony R7 is really cool too but a little more pricey and way more difficult to find. If you are wanting to stay new technology and can swing around $300.00, then the TC Electronic box I mentioned can be had used.

Funny that noone mentioned the RSP Intelliverb. It can be found quite easily and is IMVHO an really underrated "room simulator" - not to be confused with cheap "reverb" boxes. It's got its own sound, very pleasant and "wooden", quite real and incredibly detailed in editing.
