| Thank you guys - This is the plan and comments are welcome So if all goes according to plan, this is what I'll be doing. What I have so far: Macbook Pro Mbox 2 SM57 AKG D1000 (sm57 copy from the 70's basically) Nice pair of Sony cans What I'm getting: Condenser Mic: AT4050 I wanted something that would be really versetaile. Mainly for male vox, good on acoustic guitar, and anything else I could throw at it. I really wish I could try out the different AT models at a store somewhere but from what I've read and the clips on the website, I think I'm going with this. Monitors: Yamaha HS50m's I know the Tascam VXL5's are supposed to be great, and I'm still somewhat tempted, but what really has me going toward the HS50's is the fact that they can be made to very closely resemble NS10's, which are so ubiquitous in studios, and which I'm already used to. Feel free to talk me out of it though cause the Tascam's are cheaper. =P Preamp: M-Audio DMP3 Pretty self explanatory. It's incredibly affordable and really clean. I thought about getting something with a bit more warmth but I figured first I'd get a clean sound, then I'd start going for stuff that adds character. And that, along with the Pro Tools production upgrade ($250 now that I'm certified), would be that. Thanks again for all the help I've gotten on this board in the last month or so. |

I've been incredibly disappointed with the HS80Ms we bought for our B studio. You should reconsider the Yamahas. Nothing like NS10s. Tannoys and Events come to mind when I think of cheap speakers that don't suck. I have no experience with the Tascams.
