Connection Via ADAT.

Dumb question.. But..
When connecting something via ADAT, you need TWO cables right?
One to go, and one to come from.

Yes?

[edit;
It's a 002R and a Ocotopre LE]

Just got a problem now.. The ADAT connectors are really loose - no matter how hard i push them into the slots.
This is causing clicks etc, and i've got it set to the same sample rate as the 002 - and it's got a lock on that.

I also can't hear anything through the channel "ADAT1" despite there being a signal present - and i have tried a few channels just to make sure it wasn't me! (well. sort of!)

Huh?

You only need one cable. Plug one end into the Octopre (that's OUT) and plug the other end into the Digi 002 (ADAT input jack).

ah.. thanks!

But, that still doesn't solve the problem of how tight they're supposed to be within the slots?

Am i to go over the little ridge in the cable..? Or do they just sit in there?

I read on a search that a guy had to push pretty hard to get it to sit properly, but i don't want to push too hard and damage the unit!

There's usually a little bump on the top (flat) edge of the connector. Push it past that and it will "snap" into place and stay there. A gentle tug on the cable should not pull it out of the socket. The flat collar of the plug should be flush against the connector.

It's unlikely you'll break the connector. Be gentle but firm.

The connector only goes in one way. Make sure you have it properly aligned!

The top edge is flat, the bottom edge is rounded. If you're using excessive force you may have the connector misaligned with the input jack.

I'm putting it the right way in,.. I made sure of that before i started, but i can't get them to click properly!

I'll attach a picture in a few mins of the connector i'm using, and what it's (not) doing.

The clear tip inside the connector is an end cap. Pull it out and the cable will connect properly. thumbsup

Some manufacturers ship cables with those funky cap "tips" (to prevent damage) and there are others who ship their cables with an actual cap that snaps off (it almost looks like a connector) so it's much more obvious that it is supposed to be removed.

If you haven't worked extensively with ADAT and optical cables, it's an easy thing to overlook.

Hope it's all working for you!

Sorry for the wrong info, didn't read all the way and I thought you were reffering to an AD/DA converter
