003 vs Black Lion 002 Mod

Im wondering what's with the 003 it's not much of an upgrade as far as i can see.
Maybe I should have BLA mod my 002 or should I buy the 003?

I don't even think there should be a question about that.. There are like no improvements with the 003 and not to mention your going to have to dish out some bucks to upgrade. Mod your 002 and enjoy, let someone else deal with the bugs, crappy build quality and wasted $$$..

If there aren't any sonic upgrades to the 003 [which i seriously doubt there are],
i wouldn't waste your time.
go w/ the BL mod.
the 003 is looking like a complete

It's kind of silly to guess at a purchase decision now isn't it? The big advantage will be the big plug-in package that comes with it. There might be improvements, there might now. You should wait and see/hear for yourself.

My guess is Digidesign paid attention to what the Black Lion company did to supercharge the 002 and that gave birth to the 003.

Only time will tell but I wouldn't be surprised if upcoming reports from the trenches reveal the 003 to be a sonically improved over the 002 (mic pres & conversion).

They didn't show this thing off at NAMM...

There must be some reason for that...

Does it not give one pause?

"the Digi 003 takes all the built-in functionality of its predecessor and ups the ante with redesigned preamps and superior A/D conversion, plus a jog/shuttle wheel allows for easily moving through the session timeline. The 003 preamps are the latest generation mic pre for Pro Tools LE interfaces, and use discrete, bi-polar, low-noise transistors coupled with a cleaner signal flow and improved pots. The Digi 003 is also equipped with word clock I/O making it super-easy to sync Pro Tools LE with external digital devices. Also new to the Digi 003 is a pair of control room outputs in addition to the dedicated monitor outputs."

apparently, there are some upgrades. we'll just have to wait and see how much better they are. but it does appear that the converters and pres have been upgraded.

Yeah, they could have followed Mackie, Tascam and a few others by showing it two years ago, instead of waiting until it was ready.
