pretty lame in my opinion... it's not an upgrade at all. doesn't come anywhere close to the features of the ff800, firestudio, saffire pro, etc. it's just a very basic evolution of the 002. looks like i'll be moving to a different daw when i outgrow my mbox.

I have to admit ... in a perverse way, I'm almost in awe of how little they improved the product from the 002. They just showed total contempt anyone who fantasizes about building a pro studio around a Pro Tools LE system. And the lack of S/MUX support -- what can possibly explain that other than pure spite?

You guys have to admit ... you didn't think they had the balls to put out something this unimpressive, did you?

Just a side note that it looks like the price didn't increase.. So now you get a few extra features ( world clock is a cool one ) and it doesn't go up in price.

how is this surprising??? Was the 002 a huge upgrade from the 001?? Sound quality wise maybe, but not in features.

Digi wants to keep LE and HD users in 2 very distinct categories. If they had a 003 with 8 pres and 16 channels of lightpipe, they would lose HD customers because more people would buy the 003 rather than pay big $$ for HD.

Digi does what is good for themselves, not their customers, (just like most businesses). They are a leader in DAWs because of pro tools, and people will buy whatever they put out, because they want pro tools.

The funny (in a sad way) thing is that it took them so long to release the 003 . . . It was probably hard for them to figure out how to fit all the new features into only 2 rack spaces

Everything Digi has released on PTLE has always been barely adequate hardware wise. Were it not for the editing power PTLE products would downright stink.

Who would ever buy a digi unit for their preamps or converters? Apalling rubbish!

They are the most mean spirited audio company on the planet, who lock you into their platform with their cruddy over priced hardware. It's taken them this long to offer what other companies have been selling for several years now as standard!

Sorry for the rant but they really give me the ........!

wow.. I mean WOW!!! They wated this long and all they added was wordclock....

What an utter let down. If only they spent a little less on that crappy digizine mag and a little more on say, another adat connector..

The mind really does boggle.

Nice one digi.

A home run for sure.

Now, after letting the dissapointment wear off for a couple of hours - here's what I think.
The 003 is not an upgrade or a new "generation" of LE (despite what Digi says), it's simply a facelifted 002, a "product refresh".
What purpose does THAT serve ?
NONE - apart from giving a new and uniform look to the LE Family and the impression that things are evolving.
You see, I'M pretty sure there will be a 003 Pro. THAT unit MUST sport some sort of improvement in I/O and features. For that we'll have to wait maybe a year.
The 002 will be supported probably for as long as the current 003. Why ? IT'S THE SAME THING. There's no technical reason (like it was for the 001) to drop support for the 002 while keeping the 003. They're both gonna co-exist for a long time. IF Digi does drop the 002 somewhere down the line they are rightly labeled "Bastards".
If the 003PRO never materialize then I'll join you guy's in a group session chanting "we don't understand, we don't understand"....
Businesswise I can see this new facelifted 002 make some sense - but ONLY if in the greater sceme of things there is a 003PRO.
If not, then today we have witnessed the beginning of Digi's fall from it's "industry leader" position.
If you don't have the young up-and-coming guys using your stuff, then why would you presume that they will switch to HD when they make it big ?
Using Nuendo with all the available hardware options you are never gonna HAVE to switch for any other reason than that of compability. And if enough guys pass on LE and go Nuendo (or whatever) the non-PT guys are gonna grow in numbers and slowly start to cancel out that one reason to get HD - Compability.
I like PT, I run my business on an LE rig.
I just wish that there were something in between HD and the 003.

Rock on.

If they had put nothing but two Adat in/outs and fw into a Mbox2 Mini-like box it would have been a huge upgrade from this Digi 0,03 sheit

I haven't looked, but I wonder how much more they will want for the upgrade from the Digi002 to the Digi003.

I'm also wondering now what bugs the Digi003 is going to have.

The Digi002R had a crap power harness that had to be replaced, and you had to buy a PCI firewire card if you wanted to record more than one track with a Apple G4 MDD.

AND I'm wondering how many people it took to make this upgrade happen? One? Two? Taking 3 years to add wordclock IO couldn't have taken too much effort.

Then again, LE has to be shitty in order to make people want HD more.

Now i'm just scared of how few features they are going to add to PT HD. HD is barely an upgrade for people mixing on a console and using no/few plugs.

what is going on with the look of this thing. (since the features aint bowling anyone over) I at least thought it would look cool

looks like a cross between maudio and tapco.

actually makes the 002r look modern.

Well I'm just glad I didn't hold off and wait for that POS. My Black Lion Audio 002 console will be back Saturday and I'm looking forward to all the new goodies.. Is there any improvement at all here? I think it looks like some of the cheaper Maudio and other lower end brand equip.

well hey look on the bright side. maybe the 002 will completely bomb in price enough to where you can buy that and send it to black lion for the same price as getting a 003.

This quote from the description is pretty telling as far as the demographic they are marketing to.

"No instrument? No problem! 003 Rack includes a range of versatile audio applications, sounds, and virtual instruments that work with Pro Tools to compose music or to simply play — no real instrument (or musical knowledge) required."

LOL... thats pretty funny, yet it kind of trips me out that they have such a lock on the industry that they literally can put out a piece of poop with pre's on it and still be on top.

or on the flip side, they did have a profit loss this year so Im wondering if this will add to theyre decrease in profit forcing them to stay competitive and put something out better..

who knows what they will do.. I work with an 002 rig and a HD3 and i get both jobs done perfectly fine.

yes the wordclock is cool and would allow people to use different converters or clocks but at the same time..

who really gives a shit..

HEY DIGI.... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

Real Question Here,

Do you think that if they received enough negative feedback through email or whatever that maybe "just maybe" they would re think things?
