My Tascam m1600 opportunity

So this guy at work offered to sell me his Tascam m1600 for like $300. Says it's in full working condition and has recently been cleaned and stuff, and I believe him. Even said I could take it for a weekend and try it out in the studio... sounds like a pretty good offer to me.

I have a Soundcraft Spirit Studio 16 right now that replaced my Mackie 8 bus, and i'm not as happy with it as i thought i'd be. Some simple things- low cut and eq on/off switches, not to mention SOME slant to the board so I could see things when i'm sitting down- were missing, and i think the overall sound is a little too harsh for me. Maybe i got a dud, seems like everyone else loves these.

The Tascam would take care of all those problems i had with the Soundcraft, but does it sound any good? How are the mic pres? Is the EQ fairly useable and responsive, or is it kinda distant and lame like the Mackie felt?

I think they are excellent little desks. I'd say go for it for that money.

Hey Bill.

Hope things are well in Iowa.

I have the Tascam M2600 mkII. Love it. And the eq is worthwhile for a cheaper board. I don't think that I could beat this board with anything othe than a topaz, and then not by much. I don't know if they are the same lineage or not.

good luck!

Turns out it only had 8 mic pres, not 16 like the guy said. Sooooooooo, nevermind.
